Troon extended their winless league run to five games as they narrowly lost out in a 1-0 defeat to a high-flying Beith Juniors.
Troon started the match by once again gifting their opponents an early lead. Carlo Monti received the ball unmarked almost 30 yards from goal and fired it past Dale Burgess and into the back of the net.
An equaliser almost came a minute later as a ball in from Kyle Gilroy landed to Sam Jamieson, who rattled it off the bar from inside the box. Beith goalkeeper Owen Stott did well to save the follow up efforts from Dale Moore and Dean Fulton to ensure his side maintained their lead.
The Cabes came close to grabbing themselves a second after a ball into the box fell to Josh Fowler who was quick to turn and fire his effort off the right-hand post.
Josh Black squandered a golden opportunity just before half time, leaving everyone in disbelief. Some confusion between the goalkeeper and defender allowed Black to break forward towards an open goal. Unfortunately, he could not compose himself and sent his effort soaring over the crossbar.
The Seasiders once again found themselves trailing going into the break, having wasted some glorious opportunities, and playing some of the better football.
Half-Time: Troon F.C. 0-1 Beith
They started the second half the brighter of the two sides, eagerly pushing forward to try and find an equaliser. However, some impressive defending from the visitors ensured that Troon saw very little opportunities on goal.
The hosts were awarded a free kick after Dale Moore was carelessly brought down on the edge of the box. Josh Black took the shot, but his effort was blocked by an outstretched arm in the Beith wall. No penalty was awarded though, infuriating the home support, and denying Troon the opportunity to equalise.
Another chance fell to Josh Black as he gathered the ball at edge of box and fired the ball towards the bottom right corner. Owen Stott was able to get down quickly and comfortably stop the ball in its tracks.
Tensions ran high between the sides, with both teams picking up several bookings for some foolish challenges and a number Beith players going down with cramp as they desperately tried to run down the clock and secure the win.
Jack Marks was brought on for Kyle Gilroy to bolster the Troon attack and an exhausted Josh Black would make way for Evan Horne.
A glorious opportunity fell to Jack Marks right at the death as headed the ball goal-wards from inside the box, but the Beith defender was able to get in the way of the shot and head the ball out of play.
The full-time whistle blew, leaving Jimmy Kirkwood’s side without a win this calendar year and still situated within the relegation places. Though the performance was impressive throughout the match against a very tough outfit, the club still find themselves unable to secure some much-needed points.
Jimmy Kirkwood will certainly be demanding the same level of performance on Saturday when they host a struggling Arthurlie side, though more clinical finishing and defensive discipline will be required if they hope to secure the points.
