Medical Plan

This Medical Plan sets out the clubs procedures for attending to accidents.

At a football venue, accidents to people fall under two general categories:

A) Injuries to Players
B) Injuries to those watching a game (spectators)

A) Injuries to players

The team will always have a First Aider / Physiotherapist / Competent Person in attendance.

Normally players are withdrawn from a game and a substitute takes over for the injured player, with any injuries being assessed later via a Doctor, Hospital or Physiotherapy assessment.

The home and away teams would normally follow this process each having their own Competent Person.

The club has a stretcher available should players need to be helped from the field of play and both changing rooms have a bench for an injured player to rest inside.

Each team is required to have a First Aid Kit , with stock maintained and everything is sterile and in date, available at all times.

The SFA have issued guidance for Concussion, which is part of the First Aid training and therefore should be followed.

More serious injury , possible leg breaks and the like, are deemed emergencies and the injured player cannot be moved, simply comforted and kept warm until an Ambulance arrives, to take control of the situation.

This is standard protocol, and the Referee may either suspend the game until all is cleared or abandon the game.

Ambulance access route is always maintained unblocked from the Portland Street access and access / egress to the pitch next to the invalid parking spaces at the corner of the pitch.

B) Spectator Injury

(including Committee and Ground staff)

Any accident or incident involving Spectators have to be dealt with separately, and another Competent First Aider has to be made available to deal with any off field events. Whilst Troon Football Club have several approved First Aiders registered , there may be times when these are not available , and external First Aider will be deployed.

A dedicated First Aid Room is available in the club house. This facility is warm and dry and has access to drinking and hot water with an Emergency WC available. This building is clearly marked with First Aid signage and fitted with First Aid Kits.

There are other small rooms in the event of more than one being required as a “ holding area.”

The Risk of Spectator injury depends on the standard of facilities , weather conditions and size of crowd. If a crowd of over 500 is expected an additional First Aider will be put in place.

To reduce the risk of possible injury an annual Ground Inspection is undertaken with any noted actions relating to possible hazards being rectified.

First Aiders will be suitably identified by High Visibility clothing.

First Aiders will be certified and fit to carry out the function.

Ambulance access needs to be maintained to this First Aid Facility.

General Arrangements

First Aid Kits need checked for content before events.

First Aiders have to report to the ground 3/4 hour before the event kicks off and stay until after all spectators have dispersed.

All accidents have to be recorded in the Accident Book and any issue which needs attention dealt with before venue is next use.

DOCUMENT CONTROL

All of our safety documents and club policies are subject to mandatory annual reviews.
