Troon Athletic, and Troon Academicals before them, first called Station Park their home ground, a park in Troon located from the Station Hill to the Yorke Road bridge, until 1923.
Before moving into the new modernised facility beside the seafront, Troon Academicals F.C. had spent their entire existence (from 1889 until 1919) playing at Station Park (sometimes referred to as Portland Park) before the new Portland Park, as we now know it, was constructed. At the time of it’s closure, the resident team at Station Park was Troon Athletic.

Up until its closure, Station Park was basic at best and had one of the poorer playing surfaces in Junior Football. When Troon Athletic moved to Portland Park in 1923, the park was converted into tennis courts and the pavilion used for tennis changing.

In later years, the pavilion was converted into the Golf Pro shop and the park demolished and replaced with the car park for Troon Links Golf Course.
From 1923 onwards, Troon Athletic were inhabitants of the brand new Portland Park.
