A committee member’s voluntary role at a non-league football club is often a thankless task, and a labour of love.

The Troon committee are all supporters of the club, and fulfil a variety of roles within the club to ensure the smooth running of the club.

JIM KIRKWOOD

Club Chairman

Jim first got involved at Troon in 2010, when both he & Jimmy arrived and immediately set about changing the club’s fortunes both on and off the pitch.

As Chairman he is tasked with balancing budgets, and utilising his extensive business acumen and deep-rooted passion for the game. The Chairman often juggles countless responsibilities, all while being the steady hand guiding the club’s fortunes off the pitch to safeguard its long-term future.

JOHN REDMOND

Vice-Chairman | Commercial Manager

A man who needs no introduction at Portland Park, “Yogi” has served at the club since the early 1990s and is delighted to be back home.

The Vice-Chairman serves as the chairman’s trusted deputy, stepping in to lead when required while playing a vital supporting role in matchday operations.

The Commercial Manager is the driving force behind our financial growth and sustainability. Responsible for securing sponsorships, managing hospitality, managing partnerships, and creating revenue opportunities, the role is central to keeping the club competitive.

Our Vice-Chairman (or Chairman of Vice, as he prefers to be known!) Billy covers a number of roles at the club.

Richard has been a supporter since the nineties, but has been a volunteer at the club since 2008 to head up our Media & Communications before being appointed Commercial Manager in 2015. He was appointed Club & Match Secretary in June 2018.

As Secretary, he is the key administrator at the club, ensuring the smooth running of operations behind the scenes. From handling official correspondence and liaising with league authorities to organising fixtures and maintaining records, the role demands precision and dedication. Richard is often the first point of contact for players, officials, and supporters, providing vital communication links. Balancing paperwork with people skills, he helps uphold the club’s professionalism and keep its day-to-day activities running seamlessly.

Media and Communications Manager is an increasingly important part of a football club, shaping how the club connects with its supporters and wider community. From managing social media channels and producing match reports to handling press enquiries and creating engaging content, the role keeps fans informed and involved. Combining creativity with strategic thinking, Richard constantly promotes the club’s image, builds its profile, and ensures it’s story is told with passion and professionalism both on and off the pitch.

ALASDAIR KIRKWOOD

Treasurer

Ally got involved, along with Jim & Jimmy, in 2010. His contribution is key behind the scenes, with his business knowledge vital.

The Treasurer is the guardian of the finances, ensuring every penny is accounted for. From preparing budgets and managing matchday income to paying bills and tracking sponsorship funds, the role is vital to the club’s stability. Working closely with the Chairman, the Treasurer provides transparency and financial guidance.

JUSTIN BROWN

Justin, as Head of Youth, is responsible for nurturing the next generation of talent and ensuring a clear pathway from grassroots to the first team. Overseeing coaching, development programmes, and player welfare, the role combines strategic planning with hands-on guidance. Building strong links with schools, community groups, and parents, Justin creates an environment where young players can thrive.

As CWPO, he plays a crucial role in safeguarding young players. Responsible for ensuring the club provides a safe, supportive environment, he oversees policies, handle concerns, and promotes best practice in child protection. Working closely with coaches, parents, and league officials, Justin ensures welfare remains a top priority at all times.

Named South Ayrshire’s Volunteer of the Year in 2023 for his hard work & commitment, something he should be rightly very proud of.

ALAN BUTCHART

Supporter’s Liaison Officer

The latest addition to the club, “Butch” took on the Supporters Liaison Officer role in May 2025.

The SLO is the vital link between the club and the supporter’s. Acting as the voice of the fans, he ensures supporters’ views are heard while also communicating club news and decisions clearly. From coordinating fan engagement initiatives to assisting with matchday queries, the role is centred on building trust and dialogue by strengthening the bond between club and community.

BRIAN GOODING

Club Chaplain & Disability Access Officer

Brian joined the club as Club Chaplain in July 2023, and his assistance has been invaluable since then in offering support to the players & coaching staff.

Brian performs a number of roles at the club alongside his chaplaincy & is a friendly face for visiting committee at Portland Park.

GORDON DEMPSTER

Committee Member

Another long-term committee member, Gordy is a popular figure amongst the supporters & is invaluable on a matchday.

Gordon is often the first friendly face supporters meet at the turnstiles on matchday. Responsible for welcoming fans, checking tickets, and managing entry smoothly, he plays a vital role in creating a positive experience from the very start.

SINCLAIR GAIR

Committee Member

Sinclair is a long-standing servant to the club, having been Club Chairman from 2008-2010 and then serving as Jim’s Vice-Chairman for a considerable number of years until his retirement.

A highly respected member of our support, Sinclair offers a steady hand and a reliable word of wisdom when it’s required.

BILLY HUNTER

Committee Member

Billy is Mr Troon F.C.

Having served on the club committee for longer than even he can remember, Billy was the club President when we lifted the West of Scotland Cup in 2005 and he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the club.

JOHN KERR

Committee Member

Local businessman John has lived in Troon all his days, and recently came on board to lend his business expertise to the club, with particular attention to our hospitality offering.

JIMMY KIRKWOOD

Committee Member

Jimmy arrived in 2010 and was appointed Assistant Manager to John Redmond before becoming our longest serving Manager, but he does so much more than that in helping out with committee affairs.

Vital to attracting sponsorship with his many business connections, not to mention acting as DJ for a number of club functions, Jimmy is key to guiding the club’s fortunes on AND off the pitch to safeguard its long-term future.

JOHN MacKENZIE

“Whisky” John is a very popular figure amongst the Troon F.C. players, committee & supporters alike, and his contribution to the club over the years will always be appreciated. A vital assistance at home matchdays.

CAMMY McKINNELL

Committee Member

Cammy is a well decorated former player at the club, who brings tremendous experience in the game to the club.

ANDY SMYTH

Committee Member

Andy was a goalkeeper for Troon in the mid-eighties before joining Cumnock, and he returned to the club in 2012 after a trophy-laden spell at Irvine Meadow XI as Goalkeeping Coach.

Along with Jimmy, Andy stepped down from the coaching staff in the summer of 2019 and joined the committee.
