Birmingham City visited Troon in July 2021 as part of their pre-season preparations for season 2021-22 in the EFL Championship.

With COVID restrictions still a concern, the top sides were no longer looking to Spain & Portugal for pre-season camps that summer, so Lee Bowyer brought Birmingham City up to Scotland and the Marine Hotel in Troon for a week of intensive training & team building, using our very own Portland Park as their base.

Alongside coaches Mark Kennedy, Andy Marshall & Paul Harsley, former Charlton gaffer Bowyer put their players through their paces on the Portland pitch for a solid week of football.
