⚽️ Rutherglen Glencairn versus Troon F.C. ⚽️
Saturday 6th November 2021
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Hamish B. Allan Stadium, Rutherglen
Kick-off 2pm

After a frustrating October, November began in the perfect fashion as Troon lifted 3 vital points to move up to 10th in the WOSFL Premier Division table.

The hunger in the away side was evident immediately as Troon forced an early corner through Darren Miller, but Matt McGinley did well to clear. Sam Jamieson came closest to breaking the deadlock when a good Josh Black run saw the former Rangers youth denied by Mick O’Byrne, before Tam Miller cleared the rebound. Skipper Raymond Montgomerie was next up to threaten, good work from Ben Black down the wing & Monty was unlucky to see his shot from the cut-back tipped past by the keeper. Troon were handed the perfect opportunity on  24 mins, the referee pointing to the spot after Tam Miller impeded Jamieson as he entered the box. McGinley came to the rescue however, saving down to his right from Stephen Wilson. Monty looked to have opened the scoring for Troon on 34 mins, but was astonished to see the linesman’s flag raised, a decision that saw Troon Assistant Manager Dean Keenan sent from the touchline for his protestations. But Troon didn’t have long to wait for the goal their play deserved, the excellent Josh Black cutting open the Glens back line & Jamieson beating his man to rifle past McGinley. And their first half superiority was confirmed when another good ball from Josh saw Ben Black slipped in & he doubled the score shortly before the interval.

HALF-TIME: RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN 0-2 TROON F.C.

The second half was a far tighter affair, as the hosts got much closer to their guests as they sought a way back into the game. Both sides blew early chances to score, Scott Schoneville with an effort from distance & then Dean Fulton sliding past from 6 yards, before controversy reigned with just five minutes to play. Michael Lone hit a shot from distance which Marc Fisher parried, and as sub Fraser Malcolm tapped home the rebound the referee blew to award a free-kick to Rutherglen, much to the chagrin of the home side & their supporters. They were to net a consolation however, that man Malcolm looping a header in off the far post in he third minute of injury time, but Troon were to see the game out for a well-deserved victory on the road.

A confidence booster ahead of a double header with Largs Thistle, beginning next Saturday at Portland Park.
