⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Cumnock ⚽️
Saturday 12th February 2022
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 2pm

Troon ran out the victors over their East Ayrshire counterparts in a poor conditions at Portland Park to extend their winning run & maintain their top ten push.

Troon came out the blocks strongly, and were frustrated to see an early effort from Darren Miller chalked off for offside, a decision that looked even more dubious with video footage, but that merely delayed the Troon opener. Sam Jamieson was Jonny on the spot when a Ewan McLevy cross dropped into his path – a smart turn & finish later, the lively frontman had his 16th goal of the season. They nearly doubled that lead 10 minutes later when a Darren Miller effort was blocked by Jamie Wilson, but just as it looked like Troon would stretch their legs & dominate the match, they relaxed & let the visitors get back into it. On 32 minutes, Andy McLaughlin was allowed all the time in the world at the edge of the box to control & fire home past Fisher for the equaliser. Sam Jamieson was denied another goal by the linesman’s flag again as the half drew to a close – one Troon should have been ahead in.

HALF-TIME: TROON F.C. 1-1 CUMNOCK

As the second 45 started, the heavens opened & the conditions deteriorated rapidly but it was the visitors who adapted quicker. Indeed, Marc Fisher was called into action to rescue his side early on making two excellent saves in quick succession from Ally Miller & then Ruaridh McIntyre. But the hosts quickly regained their composure & began to threaten again, with Jamieson denied with a headed effort from Montgomerie’s wayward shot. Miller was denied again from a corner, his header creeping past the post, before the breakthrough finally came. Montgomerie was quick to react to a poor McAusland headed clearance and Ben Black crept in behind Frye to set-up Maitland, who thundered an effort into the back of the net. Miller again had an opportunity to extend the lead but headed over, and Jamieson nearly sealed it only to be denied by a flying Hughes in the Cumnock goal just before the final whistle blew.

6 points out of 6 against Cumnock this season, and two dominant performances into the bargain. Auchinleck come to Portland next Saturday before an interesting few weeks at Largs & Sauchie.
