Townhead Park, Cumnock
Kick-off 7.30pm

Supporters of both teams certainly got their money’s worth out of their entry money, as they took in a scintillating encounter between the two teams who shared 7 goals between them in an end-to-end classic.

The Seasiders started the game in promising fashion, and the lively Ben Black was unlucky to see his effort cannon off the upright just a few minutes in before Ryan Stevenson was unlucky with a dipped effort just a few minutes later. Cumnock were to take the lead though, their former Killie youngster Callan Veitch curling in a beautiful effort from 20 yards on 13 minutes. The visitors were rocked when Veitch doubled the lead on 19 minutes, tapping home a Smith cross. The home side were in charge at this point, but Jimmy Kirkwood’s men rallied well & Stevenson headed home a pin-point Josh Black  corner on 34’ to half the deficit, before former Cumnock man Raymond Montgomerie slammed home the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

HALF-TIME: CUMNOCK 2-2 TROON F.C.

Troon started the second 45 on the front foot & were  rewarded with an early penalty after Josh was fouled in the box, and Stephen Wilson shook off last week’s miss & gave the Seasiders a deserved lead. Just as Troon looked to seal the three points, disaster struck as Captain Montgomerie was dismissed for a second yellow card, and the visitors suddenly looked up against it as the team went from dominant to vulnerable on the strength of one decision. Former Troon midfielder Jamie Wilson struck what looked to be a fatal equaliser on 70 minutes and most home fans expected a winner to follow… which it duly did, but from the 10 men instead. After being denied in a one on one with Hughes, Sam Jamieson tapped home a Josh Black cross after a Ben Black step-over to spark wild scenes in the away end, and seal a vital 3 points.
