Take Two!
Following the original Cup match being abandoned due to a serious injury on Saturday 28th February, we go again on Wednesday and it’s the excitement of a quarter-final with Drumchapel United the visitors once again to Portland Park.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Drumchapel United ⚽️
Wednesday 11th March 2026
Strathclyde Demolition West of Scotland Cup Quarter-Final
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 7.30pm
At the second attempt, we have an exciting Quarter-Final match in prospect with two excellent teams battling it out to reach a semi-final.
The draw for the semi-finals will be carried out in the Portland Park clubhouse after the match on Wednesday; with Irvine Meadow Xi and Hurlford United already safely into the final four, and with St. Cadoc’s hosting Auchinleck Talbot on Saturday 21st March in the remaining quarter-final, both teams will be desperate to be in that draw on Wednesday night.
Last weekend’s Cup match was obviously abandoned with Troon leading 2-1, our return league match at the weekend was a thrilling 2-2 draw, and if you include our 3-2 win in September at the Dewar and this match then we have faced Drumchapel in 10% of our competitive matches this season! No wonder folk are bored with the SPFL.
Drumchapel United had an excellent first season in the Premier Division last term after being crowned the First Division Champions in 2023-24, and they finished 6th in one of the most competitive Premier Divisions for years. Not only that, they also narrowly lost out at the two-legged semi-final stage of the Scottish Junior Cup against Tranent as well as very respectable runs deep in both the South Challenge Cup & West of Scotland Cup.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday night’s match…

Firstly, far better news regarding Jack Barr’s injury than we all feared at the time last Saturday. A serious neck injury was the concern at the time, fortunately that didn’t materialise and hopefully we’ll see him back in a Troon jersey before long.
Couple of players returning to the squad this weekend, recent signing Lewis Allan has shaken off a knock and young Clayton Hood returned for the Development Team last Friday, so he comes back into contention. Given the stage of the season we are now entering, it’s a big bonus seeing the squad returning & giving the Manager selection options.
Most serious concern just now appears to be defender Jack Sherrie, who was helped from the pitch at Kilwinning with a worrying looking knee injury. He will be assessed once the swelling goes down & then his rehab will be planned from there with Darrell, but it is feared his recovery will be more long-term rather than short. Fellow defender Luke Watt is also out injured again.
Evan Ferguson is working his way back to fitness, and Scott McLean is still continuing his rehab from knee reconstructive surgery.

Third game on the bounce against Drumchapel, so I’m running out of things to say a wee bit here!
I had said at the time how pleased I was to get the 3 points against the Drum back in September & said what a good side they were, and I think those words have been vindicated in the last couple of weeks. They are a very strong side, with some excellent players, and they have more than shown their quality in the last couple of weeks. They would certainly argue they deserved their point on Saturday, however much I was frustrated we didn’t hold on for the three, and they have certainly shown how tough this quarter-final will be. One thing’s for sure, however – whoever wins this match on Wednesday will have earned it.
I could go on and on about how we should play, and what I’m asking from the boys, but there is only one thing that matters on Wednesday night; win the game & be in that draw for the semi-final.

⚽️️ MUNIR IDRIS ⚽️

The 22 year old was a revelation in the WOSFL Premier Division last season, and really caught the eye with some dazzling performances.
Such was his level of performances last term, he was snapped up by League One side Hamilton Academical in July, before he was a welcome returnee to the Dewar in November to give the Drum a boost at a vital time of the season.
Fast, direct & a real handful for any defender.
⚽️️ BILLY OWENS ⚽️

The 22 year old has impressed in the Drum side this season, an old-fashioned 7 or 8 out of 10 every week who has shown off his versatility in a number of positions with style.
The Glasgow-born defender began his career in the Thistle Weir Youth Academy before progressing to Partick Thistle itself. He enjoyed a spell on loan to East Kilbride in 2021, and eventually moved on to Kelty Hearts in 2023 where he enjoyed two seasons in SPFL League One at New Central Park.
He joined Drumchapel in July and he has been a regular starter in the XI.

The first encounter of 2024-25 was an entertaining match in Troon’s first ever visit to the Glasgow Club Donald Dewar.
Troon had a strong start to the match and should have been ahead at half-time, misses that they came to rue as David Hopkirk gave their hosts the lead on the 58th minute with a trademark superb goal. As Troon pressed and threw the kitchen sink at the Drum, defender Ruaridh McIntyre sealed the 3 points for the First Division Champions late on.

The return match in March was to be an even better performance from the Drum, as they blew their hosts away with a goalscoring spree.
That man David Hopkirk gave the visitors an early lead with a smart finish, before a battle ground out and the first half was seen out. The Drum came out determined after the interval though, and a quickfire double from Kevin Nicoll & Munir Idris secured the 3 points thanks to two assists from Argyll McCoist in front of his famous father.ough Kyle Gilroy, before Dykes got on the scoresheet again to restore parity. Both sides spurned good chances to secure the 3 points, before both had to settle for a hard-earned point apiece.
