The big matches just keep coming, and it’s a return to the home comforts of Portland Park and a visit from our old friends from Hurlford United for our 23rd WOSFL Premier Division match of the season.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Hurlford United ⚽️
Wednesday 1st April 2026
WOSFL Premier Division
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 7.30pm
After an impeccable January, February was almost a disappointment by comparison. But March is now very much back with a bang, five wins and a draw is a superb return and not only sees us back at the top of the table but into a WOSFL Cup Final in May as well!
Focus re-shifts entirely to the league now for the next 4/5 weeks and the challenges get tougher almost by each passing week, and we begin a massive month in April.
After a frustrating campaign in 2024-25, Hurlford United have had a much stronger season this time out and currently sit comfortably in 6th place. They’ve suffered a real body blow with the news that their work at Blair Park would not be completed in time for their SFA License, which is devastating news for all the hard-working people behind the scenes. Their form has dipped slightly of late, quite understandably, but they will be moving their attention to next season and going one better next time out.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday night’s match…

Very positive to see the queue for Darrell’s treatment table decreasing over the last few weeks, which could be vital ahead of a crucial run of games for the club.
Jack Allan came off on Saturday with a wee knock, but he is expected to be fit for Wednesday no problem. Nathan Baird sat out Saturday’s win over Rutherglen with a wee niggle, but he is also expected to return.
Midfielder Kyle Faulds will miss out as he begins a two-match suspension, following his late red card on Saturday.
Most serious concern just now appears to be defender Jack Sherrie, who was helped from the pitch at Kilwinning in January with a worrying looking knee injury. He visited a consultant last week to determine the extent of the damage, once he receives the results we will take it from there. Fingers crossed for good news, although it is feared his recovery will be more long-term rather than short.

Everything to be satisfied with last Saturday, a great day out for us as a club.
All credit to the players for coming flying out the blocks right away, to be 2-0 up after 14 minutes gave Rutherglen a mountain to climb and 4-0 at half-time effectively ended it as a contest. It’s been something that has been asked of the boys this season, is to be clinical and to kill teams off, and this is exactly what they did on Saturday and well done to them for that.
Not only happy with the score line on Saturday, but we have to talk about the quality of the goals on Saturday. Callan’s strike to open the scoring was just sublime, and with his weaker left foot as well! Jack Allan doubles the lead with a beauty of a finish, Dario with a wee outside of the foot effort and Lewis with a trademark header. Sam’s finish was deadly and Leyton’s penalty gave the keeper no chance, so a real Goal of the Season competition in one game.
We always enjoy our matches with Hurlford, we always get a warm welcome at Blair Park & we like to reciprocate at Portland, so a very good relationship between the clubs. Darren’s a Manager I know well & have a lot of time for; always a really challenging encounter between the sides, and rarely much between us. In my time here we always seem to follow the form book where both teams win their home matches, but last season we did the double over Hurlford (for the first time I can remember, anyway). I’m sure Darren will be determined to right that this week; it’s all about how we handle that pressure this week.
Look forward to seeing a big support to cheer us on!

⚽️️ MARTIN McDONALD ⚽️

29 year old ‘Ginge” is one of the most reliable last line of defences in the Premier Division, with some rock steady performances for the ‘Ford.
Having joined up at Blair Park from Irvine Victoria in the summer of 2019, he saw off stiff competition to replace Ally Brown as Darren Henderson’s undisputed number 1. He moved to the SPFL with Stranraer, before work pressures forced him to step away and he eventually joined Ardrossan Winton Rovers. He returned to Blair Park in January 2025 and has looked to return to the form that won him the Stranraer move in the first place.
⚽️️ CARTER FREW ⚽️

Still only 23, young Carter has made himself a mainstay of the ‘Ford defence with some seasoned performances following the absences of more experienced campaigners like Chris Robertson & Chris McKnight.
Began his career with St. Mirren as a youth, Carter signed on at Blair Park in the summer of 2021 & he has impressed ever since. Comfortable at full-back, but he has established himself at centre-back this season & he is certainly one to watch in the coming years.
