MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

Saturday 29th February had Troon facing the current league leaders Kilwinning Rangers, As our battle to avoid relegation continues, points were vital. Conditions were difficult as Storm Jorge made his presence felt. The pitch, however, was in good condition.

Both teams were finding the windy conditions difficult. A blow came to the Buffs when their former Troon keeper Adam Strain had to leave the field after 10 minutes with a calf injury. Number 2 keeper Chris Taylor replaced him between the sticks. Chances were few and far between in the first half hour, until the visitors took the lead. A corner found the unmarked ex-Troon favourite David Syme & his downward header was swept home by Calvin Kemp. Troon responded well, with Evan Maley and John Gemmell coming close with a shot and header respectively.

HALF-TIME: TROON F.C. 0-1 KILWINNING RANGERS

The home side continued to push for an equaliser, as conditions worsened in the second half. Troon were rewarded in the 54th minute. Captain for the day Mark Morrison shot from 20 yards after a good rundown the inside right channel. His well taken effort found the net, with the Buffs keeper being slightly deceived by the strong wind. Referee Calum Scott produced the first of 6 yellow cards on the hour mark. In the 72nd minute, the Buffs Gary Fleming was red-carded for a nasty tackle from behind on Dean Fulton. The remaining period was a scrappy affair.

A point may be better than nothing but, neither side can be completely satisfied with a draw, from a match that both sides needed to win for different reasons.
