Scottish Cup weekend is always a special weekend for everyone involved, but for us this one is different – it’s not just the Scottish Junior Cup we are playing in this season, it’s the “senior” Scottish Cup this weekend!

A taxing looking September unfortunately proved to be exactly that; we got off to the perfect start with two wins out of two and ten goals scored, not to mention a walkover in the Scottish Junior Cup to progress to the next round. But three defeats against Johnstone Burgh, Kilwinning Rangers and a sobering defeat at Cumnock certainly checked the emotions. The supporters will be looking for October to be better.

Saturday sees us enter unchartered waters for us, but it’s a new challenge that we are all looking forward to. Deveronvale are a historic and proud club with a superb looking stadium, so all in all it’s a weekend we are all relishing. A regular fixture in the Highland League, it’ll be a difficult ask but we’re sure Jimmy & the boys will be well prepared. The supporters’ bus is full for the trip, but we hear quite a few supporters making their own way up & making a weekend of it, so we look forward to a vocal effort from the Seagulls in Banff.

Deveronvale have made a mixed start to the 2026-27 Breedon Highland League campaign. After four consecutive defeats to open the season, the Banffers steadied themselves with a 3-0 victory over Rothes, followed by draws with Forres Mechanics and Nairn County. A notable 3-1 home win over Fraserburgh was another highlight, while victories away to Lossiemouth and a 2-2 draw with Clachnacuddin have continued their improvement. After 12 matches, ‘Vale sit 14th in the 18 team league with 12 points.

N.B. Should the match be a draw after 90 minutes, the match will go to extra-time and then, if necessary, will go to penalties. A winner will be decided on the day. The 2nd round draw will be carried out on Sunday or Monday following the 1st round matches.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Nathan Baird sat out the last two matches after picking up an ankle knock at Newton Stewart, and he will sit out this weekend as well as he continues work on his recovery. Calum Gow is suspended, as he was sent-off in his last Scottish Cup match for Pollok against Darvel, while Callan Veitch is away on holiday. New signing Scott Lewis is cup-tied, having featured in this season’s competition already with Drumchapel United.

Lewis Allan has been working hard with Darrell to get back to fitness after suffering a knock on his knee, but he has been back in training this week and he shouldn’t be missing too much longer. Kieran Logan has joined Maybole on a permanent transfer.

Scottish Cup week! That’s a fantastic thing for us to be able to say. Memories of a night very early in my reign in 2011 in the old ADL days when we faced Muirkirk at Portland in front of about two men and a dog, who witnessed possibly the worst draw football has ever seen. Our fantastic club has come an awful long way since that miserable midweek match, and this is certainly the highlight. Let’s go and make memories.

A lot of hard work has gone into this particular moment where we are ready to take our place in the Scottish Gas Men’s Scottish Cup for the very first time. Hard work from the Chairman Jim and our Club Secretary Richard off the field to confirm our SFA Club Licence award, and hard work from our coaching team and our players on the field last season to ensure we secured our place in the Lowland League and tier 5 of Scottish football. Not an achievement that should be taken lightly, and one that brings us to this weekend and our first ever Scottish Cup match in our 80 year history.

But, we are not here just to be grateful for taking part. We have to prepare ourselves properly, focus on the match and have the resolve to impose ourselves on the match itself and endeavour to take something out of it. We may have waited 80 years to play our first match, but maybe I’m getting greedy – I want more.

Deveronvale are a proper side, we are fortunate the Chairman was able to get somebody to watch them in recent matches and so we hope that insight can give us an opportunity for this weekend’s match. They have some excellent players and a fair few for us to beware of this weekend, we need to be at our best to give us a chance to progress to the next round.

⚽️️ DEM YUNUS ⚽️

Demilade Yunus joined Deveronvale in July 2024 after a season with Inverurie Loco Works, and he has embedded himself in the club as a key player in the middle of the park, wearing the Captain’s armband on more than a few occasions.

The 24 year old Nigerian-born midfielder began his career in the youth section of Dyce and Lewis United before beginning his senior career with Cove Rangers. He moved on to join Keith in September 2020 and he spent four seasons at Kynoch Park, where he established himself as a versatile and powerful Highland League player.

Yunus scored the opening goal in the Banffers’ 3-1 Scottish Cup victory at Darvel in September 2025.

⚽️️ CELMIRO MUSSUNDA ⚽️

The Angola born 22 year old joined Deveronvale in July from North of Scotland Premier League side Bridge of Don Thistle.

Previously with Cruden Bay, Mussunda developed a reputation for his pace, dribbling and creativity. He enjoyed a prolific 2025–26 campaign with Bridge of Don, scoring 19 goals from midfield.

Deveronvale manager Garry Wood had tracked him previously and moved quickly when the opportunity arose to bring him to Princess Royal Park, believing he could add energy and creativity to the attack. Celmiro made an immediate impression, earning Man of the Match honours in a 3-0 victory over Rothes in August 2026.

DEVERONVALE

Season 2025-26

Deveronvale endured a mixed 2025-26 campaign, ultimately finishing 14th in the Breedon Highland League with 37 points. The Banff side made a bright start, including eye-catching victories over Wick Academy, Buckie Thistle and Rothes, the latter a 5-2 success in September. However, consistency proved elusive, particularly after Christmas, and 19 league defeats left the ‘Vale side in the lower reaches of the table.

The Scottish Gas Scottish Cup provided one of the season’s highlights. Deveronvale travelled to Darvel in the first round and produced an impressive 3-1 victory to progress to the second round. Their run ended at home to League Two opponents Elgin City, who edged a tight contest 2-1 despite the Vale’s determined effort.

In the Highland League Cup, Deveronvale were eliminated in the first round, losing 4-1 away to Banks O’ Dee. There was greater success in the Aberdeenshire Shield, where a 4-3 penalty-shootout victory over Buckie Thistle sent them into the semi-finals, before Aberdeen B won 3-1 at Princess Royal Park.

Jack Mitchell remained a standout performer, finishing as the club’s leading league scorer with 11 goals. He capped the season with a superb hat-trick in a 3-1 victory at Inverurie Loco Works.

TROON F.C.

Season 2025-26

Last year was a record breaking season for Troon, by any metric; West of Scotland Cup winners, on that amazing day in May, Promotion to tier 5 of Scottish football for the first time in our history, led the Division for a long time before securing a club record highest league finish after guaranteeing a top 3 finish in the WOSFL Premier Division and we achieved our Scottish FA Licence, which will see us take part in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup for the first time ever this season.
