It’s South Challenge Cup Day, and Troon head to East Ayrshire to face Cumnock for our fourth round encounter at Townhead Park.

Troon are hoping to carry their fantastic performance & result from Wednesday night’s 3-0 win over Glenafton into Saturday, as they face a tough task against Cumnock.
Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have been on a wretched run of results of late, but with their form still giving cause for optimism. With the feeling that Wednesday’s result had been in the pipeline, the plan will now be to carry that into a run of results, starting at Townhead Park.
Cumnock have been in great form this season, the Brian McGinty revolution has really gained momentum after a stop/start end to last season & they have been consistently towards the top end of the table this term.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…
The walking wounded has returned, and we still have a few knocks & niggles in the pack from a run of tough matches of late.
New signing Blair Richardson made a winning debut against Glenafton on Wednesday night, while Logan Smith made a very welcome return to the park following a long term hip complaint, although his return will be managed in the next few matches.
Dale Moore, Ewan McLevy & Josh Black were forced off with knocks against Glenafton on Wednesday, while Stephen Wilson is a definite absentee after suffering a dislocated hip against Ashfield. Raymond Montgomerie is still struggling with an ankle injury, while recent signing Michael Aitken is missing after damaging his shoulder.
I was delighted with the performance on Wednesday night, but to be honest the boys did very little different to what they have been doing in most games the past few weeks. We were just more clinical in both boxes.
Totally different challenge this weekend though, the Cup has given us some good weekends this season but the boys have the bit between their teeth after a disappointing effort in the Scottish Junior Cup against Hurlford. A terrific opportunity to put that right.

League winner, Scottish Cup winner, League Cup winner. There have been few better midfielders in the West in the last decade than Jamie, such was his impact with Beith.
Began his Junior career with Troon, and after brief forays with St. Cadoc’s & Hurlford he now looks settled at Townhead Park. A strong influence.
⚽️️ MARK McLENNAN ⚽️
31 year old Mark was a key summer signing for Cumnock, before which he was the Captain, leader and the beating heart of the Irvine Meadow side where everything good tended to go through him.
Comfortable at full-back, centre half or even in midfield, the former Pollok & St. Mirren man is routinely one of the top performers in the league .

Troon had the better of the encounters last season, lifting maximum points.
The two teams played out a classic under the midweek lights in our first encounter of last season, 10-man Troon running out 4-3 victors in a close match at Townhead thanks to goals from Ryan Stevenson, Raymond Montgomerie, Stephen Wilson & Sam Jamieson.
The return match in February was another thrilling affair, goals from Tommy Maitland & Sam Jamieson sealing a 2-1 win at Portland Park.
