⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Beith ⚽️
Saturday 2nd August 2025
WOSFL Premier Division
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 2pm
Three wins out of three is certainly an encouraging start, but that’s all it is as focus shifts to Saturday’s match. Plenty to be happy about in the matches so far, but always plenty of areas still to improve on as well.
Last season was a fantastic season for the club, even if there was perhaps a little disappointment it didn’t end up in silverware of any kind. But there is certainly a steely determination in the camp to improve on that this season. As a result, this close season has perhaps been more evolution than revolution as we look to tweak what was good last year to go one better.
Beith have seen a real summer of flux, which almost seemed inevitable after Chris Strain stepped down as Manager just before our match in March. A massive number of players departed for pastures new in May, and a strong period of recruitment has followed the appointment of new Manager Michael Dunlop. Now he has the job of moulding the new recruits together into a unit, but with the games coming thick & fast that presents it’s own challenges.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Starting to see the strength of our squad at last, with some of our injured players returning to action & making their presence felt on the park.
Leyton Dunlop & Lewis Lovering both returned to the starting XI on Saturday and made an instant impact on proceedings, Leyton with a double & Lewis with a goal and an assist. Captain Mark Morrison is back to light training on Monday, whilst Jack Sherrie has had great news from his consultant that he doesn’t require surgery after all and can restart training immediately, so hopefully we’ll see him back on the park soon.
Kyle Faulds is still missing with a calf injury for another week or two, and Sam Jamieson is undergoing treatment for an ankle injury sustained against Renfrew in the first league match of the season. Scott McLean is continuing his rehab from his knee reconstruction surgery, he is back to gentle running now & is eyeing a comeback around Hallowe’en.

Third home game in a row, good to get a few games in front of our home supporters & get a bit of momentum going off the park before we embark on a few important away games.
Delighted to be welcoming Beith to Troon once again, a club we always get on very well with & some good people involved behind the scenes, so always welcome at Portland Park. Be interesting to watch them under Michael Dunlop as well, we were very impressed with his Gartcairn side when we played them so look forward to seeing how they fare.
Saturday was a fantastic performance, I thought we were electric in the first half in particular. I don’t think Kilwinning did too much wrong, they certainly started strongly, but I just thought we were excellent. Looking back at the goal clips on young Craig’s Twitter feed (give that a follow, by the way), the goals were all of a really high calibre and that obviously bodes well for the future. We also showed great maturity to see the game out after that and manage proceedings in the second half, taking the opportunity to make a few changes & keep everyone going which is crucial at this stage of the season.

⚽️️ ADAM CUMMINS ⚽️

The signing of the 32 year old from Stranraer was a highlight of the summer business for new Manager Mick Dunlop.
The English-born defender, known as “Scouse” for obvious reasons, began his career with Everton before moving to Scotland with Motherwell. He featured 26 times at Fir Park in the SPL before loan moves to Dundee, Stirling Albion & Ayr United. A season in Ireland with Bangor City followed, before spells with Queens Park, Stirling Albion & Stranraer where he was a strong fan’s favourite at each club.
In a summer of change, his experience & leadership will be vital in the new era for Beith.
⚽️️ JAMES FINLAY ⚽️

The 29 year old former East Kilbride winger is the other statement signing of the summer, bringing some flair & an attacking threat to the Bellsdale side.
Began his career with the Ayr United Youth Academy before spells with Rossvale, Kilbirnie Ladeside, Caledonian Locomotives, East Kilbride in the Lowland League and Syngenta & Camelon in the East Region.
Most often found coming off the left flank, but equally comfortable playing through the middle, Finlay is capable of something a little bit special.

It was 2 wins out of 2 in the Premier Division for the Seasiders last season with two very impressive performances and no shortage of goals.
HOME MATCH
| Saturday 5th October 2024 | Match Centre |
| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | WON | Portland Park |
| BEITH | 4-1 | WOSFL Premier |
The first encounter of 2024-25 was a barnstorming affair.
Fraser Malcolm gave the visitors the perfect start with a 6th minute strike, before Leyton Dunlop restored parity only 3 minutes later with a well-worked team goal. Dean Fulton gave the swashbuckling Seasiders’ the lead with another free-flowing move just six minutes later and the same man threatened to extend that lead only a minute or two after that but Stott saved. Beith came back into the match after that without threatening Burgess’ goal, before Stevie Noble controversially saw red in the 29th minute for a second bookable offence. A half-time stramash in the tunnel between both teams really set the temperatures racing!
Beith started the better of the two teams once again, only to find themselves further behind thanks to Sam Jamieson’s 53rd minute goal before Callan Veitch rounded off the scoring in the 57th minute to set Troon on their way to an ultimately comfortable victory.
AWAY MATCH
| Saturday 8th March 2025 | Match Centre |
| BEITH | WON | New Tinto Park |
| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | 0-5 | WOSFL Premier |
The return match in March was to be another fantastic performance from the Seasiders at Bellsdale, the scene of a few excellent displays for Troon in recent seasons.
Following the shock resignation of Manager Chris Strain during the preceding week, Shaun Dillon was appointed interim Manager with little time to make his mark before the game. After an exciting start to the match, Leyton Dunlop put the visitors ahead after 14 minutes and goals from Kyle Gilroy and Stephen Bronsky saw Troon comfortable at half-time. Mark Morrison and another from Bronsky late on sparked bowling celebrations from the Troon players & secured maximum points.
