Ardeer Match Preview

Troon return home to Portland Park for our first match in the brand new West of Scotland Cup this weekend.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Ardeer Thistle ⚽️
Saturday 30th October 2021
Kilmarnock Pie WOSFL Cup, Preliminary Round
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 2pm

Troon come into this game on the back of some good form, albeit not mirrored by some recent results after a frustrating month of October following a fruitful September.

Last weekend’s narrow 2-1 defeat away to Pollok saw the hosts rise to the summit of the league, a fact which should give us some confidence. Given the lack of a real difference between the sides at Newlandsfield, that should give Jimmy, Deano and the boys the belief to kick on this season and cement our place in the top 10.

Ardeer have made some significant changes this season, with new Manager Sean Kenney coming in with a new backroom staff & pretty much an entirely new squad as well. The new-look side have started the season very well, although they have similarly endured a frustrating month of October.

Ardeer currently sit in 4th place in the Conference B table, just 6 points behind leaders Cambuslang Rangers.

The winners of this match will travel to Rosebank Park to face Lugar Boswell Thistle in the 1st Round on Saturday 11th December.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

A difficult month of tough games sees a few players carrying slight knocks & Captain Raymond Montgomerie is away at a family wedding, but in the main we have a fit & healthy squad to choose from.

Of our long-term absentees, Mark Morrison (knee) remains out. Ross McCrea is working on his rehabilitation after a setback following surgery on his cruciate knee injury, all things going well we hope to welcome him back into the side at the turn of the year. Todd Henderson is grafting very hard indeed as he recovers from surgery on his knee injury & he is targeting a return to training very soon.

The performances have been good of late, even if the points tally has not reflected those performances. Everyone’s working hard to rectify that.

Sean has done a great job so far in turning it round with Ardeer, and I’m sure they will have great support with them. Their young team is superb that follows them, create a great atmosphere.

It’s going to be an exciting Cup game, that’s for sure. And one we’ll be as ready for as we can be.

Dean Keenan (Assistant Manager)

⚽️️ RYAN WILSON ⚽️

28 goals in 31 appearances will mark you out as one to watch at any level, so Ryan is clearly a danger we need to be wary of.

In his third spell at the Ardeer Stadium after spells at Kilwinning Rangers & Kilbride Thistle amateurs, Ryan is flourishing under his old Kilbride gaffer Sean Kenney.

⚽️️ DARREN FRYE ⚽️

Another former Kilwinning Rangers & Kilbride Thistle player, Darren is no stranger to the Juniors and has experience to match his ability.

A midfielder with versatility and poise, he will look to dominate the midfield.
