After the excitement of our Scottish Cup win at the weekend, we return to the home comforts of Portland Park as we welcome West Park United for our first ever encounter between the two sides for a South Challenge Cup 3rd round match.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus West Park United ⚽️
Saturday 10th October 2026
South Region Challenge Cup Round 3
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 3pm
A taxing looking September proved to be exactly that, with 3 wins and 3 defeats. But October got off to the perfect start with Saturday’s triumph on the road in the club’s first ever Scottish Gas Scottish Cup tie in Banff. The management will be looking for that to be the launchpad for the season, especially given the importance of the fixtures coming up in October.
Today’s match was originally drawn as a home tie for West Park United, but due to a limitation of capacity and facilities at Huntershill Sports Hub in Bishopbriggs, the two clubs agreed to a reverse of the fixture. (Technically, it’s still West Park’s home match, just at a different venue.)
West Park United have made a positive start to life in the West of Scotland Third Division following last season’s promotion. After eight league matches, West Park sit fifth with three wins, three draws and two defeats, having scored 23 goals. Their campaign began with a 3-3 draw at Eglinton before successive home victories over Saltcoats Victoria and Giffnock SC. A 2-2 draw with Lugar Boswell Thistle was followed by a remarkable 4-4 draw away to Glasgow Perthshire on 3 October. Cup football has also brought success, with West Park beating Girvan 5-1 in the League Cup. Their Scottish Communities Cup second-round tie with Lochee United was forfeited, similar to our match against Drumchapel.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

We have a few bumps and bruises to contend with following last weekend’s travails, but nothing too serious.
Nathan Baird sat out the last few matches after picking up an ankle knock at Newton Stewart, but he is nearing a return after some hard work with Darrell. This weekend may come just too soon. New signing Scott Lewis is once again cup-tied, having featured in this season’s competition already with Drumchapel United. Callan Veitch returns after holiday.
Lewis Allan has been working hard with Darrell to get back to fitness after suffering a knock on his knee, but he has been back in training this week and he shouldn’t be missing too much longer. Kieran Logan has joined Maybole on a permanent transfer.

Last Saturday was a brilliant feeling, a historic event for our fantastic football club.
You’re going up to the Highland League, you can see the history that they’ve got at semi-professional level. The Deveronvale set-up and facilities were excellent, really beyond much of what you see with the ex-Junior clubs at this level. It did feel like a step up. There was not much between the teams to be honest. We started very well but the second half was a really tough game but we managed to come through.
It’s not been undocumented that we’ve made a few moves recently. I think the boys needed not just a good performance, but a result. I thought against Kilwinning, the previous week, we were very good we just made three very blatant errors in the game which Ryan Wilson was able to capitalise on. The performance and the result were both there on Saturday, then the bonding session on the bus journey home. It was a great outcome all round, hopefully that builds momentum going into the next three or four weeks.

⚽️️ SEAN WATSON ⚽️

Sean is a vital cog in the West Park attack, and the main focal point of their build up play.
The former Finnart forward became a hugely important contributor to their promotion winning season, with some notable performances in key matches. Watson scored twice in a memorable 2-1 victory over Vale of Leven in October, before adding another goal in a remarkable 5-4 comeback win away to the same opponents the following month. He also struck twice in a 4-4 draw with St. Peter’s and scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Royal Albert.
Fast, aggressive and never gives up, Sean is one for our defence to patrol.
⚽️️ ADAM GRIBBEN ⚽️

Adam is a key player for West Park, a battler in the midfield with no small amount of ability either.
The 22 year old spent four seasons on a scholarship playing NCAA Division II football at West Virginia Wesleyan College in the United States, where he was Captain in his senior year. He returned to Scotland in 2025 and joined the Bishopbriggs side just before Christmas, and his addition proved vital to West Park’s promotion campaign.
Previously with Glenvale & St. Cadoc’s before heading Stateside, Adam is a key player and one we have to keep a close eye on this Saturday.

WEST PARK UNITED
Season 2025-26
West Park United enjoyed an excellent 2025-26 campaign, securing promotion from the West of Scotland League Fourth Division. After BSC Glasgow’s withdrawal and the subsequent expunging of their results, West Park finished fourth in the revised table with 17 wins from 28 matches, scoring 70 goals and collecting 55 points.
There were several eye-catching results along the way, including a 5-0 victory over Carluke Rovers, a 4-0 success against St. Peter’s and a 2-0 win away to East Kilbride Thistle. The promotion-winning campaign was built on an impressive defensive record too, with only 40 goals conceded across their 28 league matches.
Cup competition proved more challenging. In the Scottish Communities Cup, West Park reached the second round before losing 3-1 at Bellshill Athletic. They suffered another narrow first-round exit in the West of Scotland League Cup, beaten 2-1 at home by Benburb. In the South Challenge Cup, West Park drew 1-1 away to Edinburgh Community before losing the resulting penalty shoot-out 3-2.
Overall, however, promotion marked a significant achievement for the Bishopbriggs club and a welcome return to the WoSFL Third Division after relegation in 2024.

TROON F.C.
Season 2025-26
Troon enjoyed a landmark 2025-26 campaign, securing promotion to the Lowland League West for the first time in their 80-year history and achieving their Scottish FA Licence award, which will see them take part in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup for the first time ever in 2026-27. They also achieved a club-record highest league finish, guaranteeing a top-three place in the WOSFL Premier Division with six matches remaining. Their season was crowned by West of Scotland Cup success: after penalty-shootout victories over Beith Juniors and Drumchapel United, and another shoot-out win against Irvine Meadow in the semi-final, Troon defeated Auchinleck Talbot 1-0 in the final. Substitute Sam Jamieson headed the decisive 92nd-minute winner, securing the club’s first major trophy since 2014.
The Scottish Communities Cup also produced a memorable run. After defeating Beith, Glasgow United and Carnoustie Panmure, Troon reached the last 16 before suffering a 2-1 defeat at Benburb in December.
Their South Region Challenge Cup campaign was shorter-lived, ending in the second round after a 5-2 defeat by Auchinleck Talbot. The Development Team retained their Conference E title, and reached the Robbie Meiklem Memorial Trophy Final, where they were edged out by Thorn Athletic following a penalty shoot-out.
