After a weekend of rest thanks to Storm Amy, we are back into competitive matches and back to league duty, as we make the supporter’s favourite trip to Newlandsfield & Pollok.

β½οΈ Pollok versus Troon F.C. β½οΈ
Saturday 11th October 2025
WOSFL Premier Division
Newlandsfield Park, Shawlands
Kick-off 2pm
We are 11 competitive matches into the season, and have only yet been beaten by Auchinleck Talbot. Same as after the last Talbot match, we bounced back in style with impressive wins over Beith and Rutherglen Glencairn to return us to joint top of the table. The target for the players this weekend is to go top of the table outright, with this being the only league match this weekend in the midst of a number of Cup matches.
Pollok have seen a real summer of flux, which almost seemed inevitable following the departure of a number of players towards the end of last season. With just four players remaining from last season’s squad, Manager Stewart Maxwell has gone on a mass recruitment drive in the summer & he has focussed on young players with potential, alongside one or two experienced heads. Performances have been naturally up & down, but hope remains that the young squad will click. With the games coming thick & fast, that presents it’s own challenges.
Hereβs everything you need to know ahead of Saturdayβs matchβ¦

The weekend of rest last week was put to good use, and we can now benefit of almost all of our squad being available for selection this Saturday, ahead of another important month in October. Sam McCloskey and Ben Black won’t feature in this weekend’s squad, after being made available for transfer this week.
Captain Mark Morrison has seen a consultant & is awaiting scan results, but he is back to light training and hopefully weβll see him back on the park soon, while Scott McLean is continuing his rehab from his knee reconstruction surgery. He is back to gentle running now & is eyeing a comeback around Christmas.

Pleased to win at Portland in the last weekend out, I thought the boys were absolutely superb. And I thought Rutherglen were very well organised and defended their box very well, but that made it even more pleasing to see us adapt our approach and find a way to cut through them. And once we got the opener, we were in complete control of the match in extremely difficult conditions. All in all, a very satisfying 3 points.
We always enjoy a trip up to Newlandsfield, but in reality it’s not always a ground where we enjoy the best of records. There is very rarely much between the sides, as you saw from two excellent matches last season which could have gone either way, but we need to make sure this one goes our way. If you want to improve year on year, you have to target lifting points in places you haven’t the year before, so this match very much falls into that category. And that’s what the focus will be on this week in training.
Everyone will have seen this week that Sam McCloskey and Ben Black have been made available for transfer. Both Sam & Ben are great lads, both boys I have an awful lot of time for, and they’ve been superb professionals in their time at Troon. But our squad is so full of ability that they have both found their playing time a bit more limited than either would have liked this season, and I have real sympathy with that. It’s the hardest part of being a Manager, leaving players out of the starting XI, but I’m sure both will get plenty of interest in the coming days and I would wish both of them all the very best if that was the case.
Lets get a strong travelling support, cheer the players on & try to cheer us on to a vital 3 points. ‘Mon the Seasiders!

β½οΈοΈ JORDAN LEYDEN β½οΈ

The 29 year old is a very underrated influence on the side, a real metronome in the middle of the park for the βLok and very much a goal-threat as well with an eye for the spectacular.
Originally a product of the Partick Thistle Youth Academy, with a loan spell at East Fife, before moving to the juniors with Arthurlie in 2016. He joined Rutherglen Glencairn in 2017, staying there until 2020. This was followed by a brief stint at Arthurlie, before a move to Gartcairn during the lockdown season. He returned to Dunterlie in 2021 and was vice-captain in Barrhead before moving to Newlandsfield in the summer to help lead Maxi’s new-look side.
β½οΈοΈ GODSPOWER OGUAMA β½οΈ

18 year old forward has made a vital impact at Newlandsfield since signing in August, adding a vital spark at the top end of the pitch and a little something special.
The Italian-born Godspower spent time last season with Thorn Athletic 20s, Scoutable United, and Queenβs Park Under 18s. Since joining on a trial at Pollok, Godspower has caught the eye as one of Maxi’s new batch of talent.

It was 2 wins out of 2 in the Premier Division for the Southsiders last season with two strong performances at Portland and then Newlandsfield.
HOME MATCH
| Saturday 27th July 2024 | Match Centre |
| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | LOST | Portland Park |
| POLLOK | 1-2 | WOSFL Premier |
The first encounter of 2024-25 was an enthralling affair.
Jack Sherrie gave the home side the lead after nearly half an hour, and there was a touch of fortuity around the goal. What looked like a long, deep cross evaded the Troon forwards & caught out Ben Fry in the ‘Lok goal, who raced back to his line to grasp the ball, only for the linesman to flag & indicate he had carried the ball over the line.
The equaliser came almost instantly, the lively Stephen Docherty lost his marker & laid the ball on a plate to Ciaran McPhie at the back post, who fired home. And the complete turnaround was complete just before the break, that man Docherty again & Aldin El-Zubaidi was the unfortunate man to turn past his own keeper for 2-1.
AWAY MATCH
| Saturday 1st February 2025 | Match Centre |
| POLLOK | LOST | Newlandsfield Park |
| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | 1-0 | WOSFL Premier |
The return match in February was a much tighter affair than the free-flowing encounter in July, but it was to be another 3 points for the ‘Lok.
Despite a quick start from the Seasiders, it was the hosts who took the lead thanks to Adam Forde, so often the talisman for the Glasgow side, and his excellent finish proved to be the only goal of the game. Troon were continually frustrated in the second half with a heavy-legged performance.
