Troon are back on the road again this Saturday, as we head up to New Cumnock to visit old friends Glenafton Athletic at Loch Park.

⚽️ Glenafton Athletic versus Troon F.C. ⚽️
Saturday 12th March 2022
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Loch Park, New Cumnock
Kick-off 2pm
Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have had a scintillating start to 2022, with 5 league wins & a narrow defeat to Auchinleck Talbot the only blot on an otherwise perfect copybook that has us second in the form table of the 20 team league.
Last weekend’s defeat away to Sauchie in the South Challenge Cup will certainly give cause for concern amongst the coaching staff, but they’ll be looking to bounce straight back this weekend.
Glenafton currently sit in 16th place in the Premier Division table, on the wrong side of the relegation zone line and possibly 6 points from safety, 18 points behind us sitting in 7th.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Our squad is back to it’s full compliment now, after being down to bare-bones for recent matches with some key players missing. No new injuries or suspensions after the last few weeks.
Of our long-term absentees, Todd Henderson has unfortunately suffered a setback in training & went under the knife on Monday to resolve his knee issues. Sure all our supporters will join us in wishing him all the best in his recovery. Ross McCrea (knee) remains out.

Pleased to have a strong squad coming into a vital game for us, business end of the season & all that. We always enjoy our games with Glenafton, had some great encounters over the years & sure this week will be no different.
Was the defeat last week a surprise? I don’t think we can say that, Sauchie are a good team & we knew that. We had done our homework on Sauchie & knew how good they were, but I think the margin of defeat was a surprise.
Special word for young Todd this week, he had to go under the knife again on Monday to fix his knee injury. He’s made a big impact for a young player & has a great career ahead of him, we can’t wait to have him back involved.
Jimmy Kirkwood (Manager)

⚽️ CRAIG PETTIGREW ⚽️
Experienced campaigner “Petts” is still the stand-out performer at the back for Glenafton.
Now 36, the former Ayr United, Stranraer, Dumbarton & Auchinleck stopper is a calming influence across the side & a threat from set-pieces.

⚽️ ROSS FISHER ⚽️
The 28 year old defender began his Junior career with Troon after spells with Kilmarnock & Queens Park, but he has made his name at this level with Hurlford United & now Glenafton.
Began his career as a right-back but now a solid centre-back, he makes a solid partnership with Pettigrew.

Troon & Glenafton didn’t face each other competitively last season, after Glenafton decided not to take part in the season that was eventually declared null & void due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Our last encounter was earlier this season, when Troon ran out 4-0 winners in a midweek league encounter in August at Portland Park. You can watch the highlights of that match below:
