Beith Preview

Troon are on the road yet again this Saturday, as we head up to the Bellsdale slope to visit old friends Beith.

Saturday 19th March 2022
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Bellsdale Park, Beith
Kick-off 2pm

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have gone from the Division’s form team to 3 defeats in the last four, and they’ll be looking to get back on track this weekend at Beith. A difficult task to put it lightly, at a difficult place to go.

Beith leapfrogged us last weekend and currently sit in 8th place in the Premier Division table on 45 points, just one position above us thanks to a better goal difference.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

With Tommy Maitland returning this week, our squad is back to it’s full compliment now. No new injuries or suspensions after the last few weeks.

Of our long-term absentees, Todd Henderson has unfortunately suffered a setback in training & went under the knife on Monday to resolve his knee issues. Sure all our supporters will join us in wishing him all the best in his recovery. Ross McCrea (knee) remains out.

Hugely disappointing couple of weeks in terms of results.

I thought our performance at Glenafton was reasonable in the main, but key moments in the game went against us due to our poor decision making. There’s no doubt about it, together, we all need to do better.

However, in the main, we can’t forget the good form that we are in and hopefully a return to that this weekend. We felt we were robbed up there last time so that’s still fresh in our minds, there wasn’t much between the teams earlier in the season and I expect another close encounter with hopefully the points returning to Portland Park.

⚽️ JAY McKAY ⚽️

31 year old Jay is in his first season proper at Bellsdale, and he is now showing his worth with some vital goals and eye-catching performances.

Began his Junior career with St. Anthony’s before moving to Bellshill, Rossvale and then finally Rutherglen Glencairn where he made a lasting impact.

⚽️ DANNY O’NEILL ⚽️

21 year old Danny is making quite the impact at Bellsdale, with some stellar performances this season.

Signed from Harmony Row Under-21s in June 2020, “Danny the Janny” has gone from one for the future to a standout for today very quickly. Solid at the back & a danger from set-plays, Danny will be one to watch this weekend for sure.

In our first encounter of 2020-21, the teams played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in November at Bellsdale. Goals from Jordan Morton & Ryan Stevenson saw us take a 2-0 lead, before red cards for James McGowan & Jack Sherrie saw Troon clinging on & a late double from Connor McGlinchey snatched a draw

The return match in March was postponed, before the 2020-21 season was eventually declared null & void due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Our last encounter was earlier this season, when a 0-0 draw was fought out between two evenly matched teams in August at Portland Park. You can watch the highlights of that match below:
