Clydebuilt Home Improvements Scottish Junior Cup (Round 2)
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 2.30pm

It’s take two to get this 2nd round tie played, following the controversy after Irvine Victoria’s expulsion and subsequent failed appeal.

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have made a quietly confident start to the season, garnering 4 wins from 7 matches in what was a tough looking start. A strong 6th position in the WOSFL Premier Division, and into the 3rd round of the South Challenge Cup after last Saturday’s 5-0 win over Forth Wanderers.

Fraserburgh United are flying this season, with 8 wins from 9 matches in the McBookie.com North Region Championship leaving them 3rd in the table. Should they win their games in hand, they could lead the way as they seek promotion to the Premier Division for next season.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Logan Smith & Mark Morrison missed last weekend’s win over Forth Wanderers owing to wee niggles, but they are hoping to come back into contention for this week’s match.

New signing Alexander Easdale made his Troon debut as a half-time substitute last Saturday, following his move from Greenock Morton.

Other than that, we have no new injury concerns to contend with, and the squad is looking hungry with competition for starting jerseys looking fierce.

I think we’re all just happy to finally get this match played, after all the delays with the appeal and all that nonsense, but the focus now is 100% on making sure we’re in the next round. It has to be.

Fraserburgh are doing really well this season & have got used to winning, we have to be wary of the confidence bounce that gives a team. It can be massive when a side is on that roll, but we just need to focus on ourselves & do our job.

Last weekend was a terrific result, great to be through to the next round & now we can look forward to welcoming St Cuthbert Wanderers to Portland Park in November.

Jimmy Kirkwood (Manager)

⚽️️ ROSS TAYLOR ⚽️

The young striker progressed through the ranks at town rivals Fraserburgh F.C., right through from the youth teams to the Highland League side.

Quick & lively, Ross has been a regular goalscorer this season (including a hat-trick in the local derby against Buchanhaven) and he is definitely one for our back line to watch this Saturday.

⚽️️ ARRON GALL ⚽️

Arron is a confirmed “Fan’s Favourite” at College Park.

Arron is the driving force in the midfield for the Broch United, and is a goal threat with his late runs from deep.

Fraserburgh United finished 5th in an 8 team McBookie SJFA North First Division last season in a season that didn’t quite hit the heights they were hoping for, before the First & Second Divisions merged to form this season’s Championship.

Troon started poorly in 2021-22 against some strong teams, but a mid-season surge saw them sitting comfortably in the 8th & 9th for the vast majority of the season before securing their place in the Premier Division for the 2022-23 season.
