Troon are back on the road again this Saturday, as we make the short trip to visit Premier Division pace-setters Darvel at Recreation Park.

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men lifted three points at Cumbernauld on Saturday to cement their place in next season’s WOSFL Premier Division. But one final push in our last three matches is required to finish the season strongly and secure a top ten finish, which would represent a fantastic season.
Darvel have been in imperious form, and have dropped points in only TWO games since the start of September in a quite magnificent run which has taken them to the summit of the Premier Division.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday’s match…
No suspensions or new injury worries to speak of thankfully, only a few minor niggling injuries to manage, as you’d expect at this stage of the season.
Of our long-term absentees, Todd Henderson was back in training at Portland Park this week, which was great to see after his latest knee operation. Ross McCrea (knee) remains out.
Saturday represents another fantastic achievement from the boys. This has been a marathon of a season so far, and as cut throat a top league as we’ve ever seen, so to secure our place for next season with a few games remaining is brilliant. We are still targeting a top ten finish, so there will be no lifting the foot at all. Still points to be won for sure.
Darvel have been flying for months now & it was no surprise to see them go top, but there was very little between the teams in October at Portland. The boys will be keen to show we’ve improved since then, so who knows what can happen. I’m looking forward to it.

⚽️ CHRIS TRUESDALE ⚽️
25 year old Chris was possibly one of the lesser known names amongst Darvel’s star studded recruitment in recent years, but his performances since he joined have shown him to be one of the best signings they’ve made.
Chris first came to the fore as Rutherglen Glencairn’s Under 21 keeper before spending a couple of seasons at Colville Park, his understated style is a massive asset to the Vale.
⚽️ DARYLL MEGGATT ⚽️
A player with a tremendous pedigree in the game, Daryll has been a stand-out since he moved to Recreation Park in the summer of 2019.
A product of the Queens Park Youth Academy before a stellar career with Alloa, Dundee, Ayr United & East Fife, Daryll is arguably the best defender in the league.

Troon and Darvel only met once last season, in farcical conditions in December, with Darvel running out 5-2 winners at Cumnock’s Townhead Park.
The return match in March was postponed & eventually cancelled following Covid restrictions.
Our last encounter was earlier this season, when Darvel ran out 2-0 winners in the encounter in October at Portland Park.
