It’s a Cup weekend yet again for the Seasiders, and this time we head to Castle Park to face Blantyre Victoria for the Scottish Junior Cup 3rd round.

⚽️ Blantyre Victoria versus Troon F.C. ⚽️
Saturday 29th October 2022
Clydebuilt Home Improvements Scottish Junior Cup (Round 3)
Castle Park, Blantyre
Kick-off 2.30pm
Troon defeated Fraserburgh last Saturday on the second attempt to get the game played, following the controversy after Irvine Victoria’s expulsion and subsequent failed appeal, and will go into Saturday’s 3rd round tie on form.
Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have made a quietly confident start to the season, garnering 4 wins from 7 matches in what was a tough looking start. A strong 7th position in the WOSFL Premier Division, with games in hand over some of those above, and into the 3rd round of both the South Challenge Cup and the Scottish Junior Cup.
Blantyre are bidding to make an immediate return to the top flight after last season’s relegation, and are currently sitting in 6th position in the WOSFL First Division. A great start has been followed by a recent blip in form, but with players returning from injury they will surely return to form.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Logan Smith & Mark Morrison could both miss out this weekend owing to wee niggles, but they are expected to come back into contention for next week’s match.
Tommy Maitland misses out, after being made available for transfer after last week’s match.
Other than that, we have no new injury concerns to contend with, and the squad is looking hungry with competition for starting jerseys looking fierce.

Last week was a very professional performance from the lads, Fraserburgh were right up for the Cup in the first half but we were particularly impressive in the second half & were well worth the win in the end.
Different challenge entirely this week, we obviously saw what Blantyre have in the Cup match back in August & they will be even more determined to get past us this time. Especially on their home turf. John Gibson will certainly have his team set-up well & this week will be a very tough challenge.
But we want good cup runs this year, so this is what we have to expect.
Jimmy Kirkwood (Manager)

⚽️️ DALE JONES ⚽️
Dale is the perfect leader that every team needs; a player who stands up to be counted & leads by example on the park.
The former Queens Park defender is a reliable performer for John Gibson, whether it be in defence or in midfield and is always ready for the battle.

⚽️️ NADEEM ZEB ⚽️
Nadeem is a “weel kent face” in Junior football circles, and is in his second spell with the club.
The hard-working former Arthurlie, Benburb & Rutherglen forward is a constant threat, his pace & strength a real asset to the side.

Blantyre were early visitors to Portland Park last season, running out 3-1 winners last August in an entertaining game at the seaside.
For the return match, Troon headed up to Castle Park last January and ran out comfortable 2-0 winners after Blantyre suffered an early dismissal to Dale Jones after only 17 minutes.
Earlier this season, Troon came out the victors in a tight South Challenge Cup encounter at Portland Park from an end to end match that finished 3-2 to the hosts.
