Hurlford United Preview

Troon are on the road yet again this Saturday, as we make one of the shorter away trips of the season to Hurlford.

Blair Park, Hurlford
Kick-off 2pm

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have got safety in their sights & are looking to cement their place in next season’s WOSFL Premier Division.

Hurlford had a strong first half to the campaign, with some memorable victories in a season where many bizarrely tipped them to flirt with relegation. It’s been quite the reverse, with Hurlford proving to be the best of the rest so far outside the title chasers.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Jack Sherrie misses out this week due to suspension, after his controversial red card against Beith two weeks ago. No other new injuries or suspensions after the last few weeks, thankfully!

Of our long-term absentees, Todd Henderson’s latest knee operation went really well & he is going to be back in training in the next couple of weeks, which is great news. Ross McCrea (knee) remains out.

Big game for us on Saturday, it’s important we build on the good work so far this season.

Squad has been a bit thin on the ground with injuries and suspensions, but players like Mark Morrison have returned and been exceptional for us.

Key few weeks for us where hopefully we can secure our place in the top flight for next season, hopefully we get a good travelling support on Saturday to give us their backing also as the lads need it.

Dean Keenan (Assistant Manager)

⚽️ PAUL MacKENZIE ⚽️

A club legend at the Ford, “Taz” was listed as Hurlford’s Player of the Decade after 8 years at Blair Park since joining from Glenafton Athletic.

Formerly a winger, Taz is now a midfield general and has scored in two Scottish Cup finals & has a full set of cup winners medals.

⚽️ MARC McKENZIE ⚽️

A man of many clubs & with a wealth of experience, “Squib” might well be in his latter years, but he is showing no signs of slowing down any.

Previously played for Stenhousemuir, East Stirlingshire, Cowdenbeath, East Fife, Elgin City, Stirling Albion, Clyde and twice for Albion Rovers, as well as Arthurlie and Kilwinning before signing up at Blair Park in December 2018.

Troon and Hurlford didn’t face each other during the 2020-21 season, which was eventually declared null & void due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

In our first encounter of 2019-20, Hurlford recorded a 2-1 victory in August 2019 at Blair Park thanks to strikes from Calum Watt & Liam Caddis.

The return match in November was an amazing affair that ended 4-1, Troon goals coming from Dylan Pooler, a brace from Scott Chatham & a dramatic effort from John Gemmell.

Troon were the 1-0 victors when we met earlier in the season at Portland Park, a Ryan Nisbet goal proving the difference between the sides.
