Arthurlie Match Preview

It’s a vital “three pointer” this Saturday as we head to Dunterlie Park for our 18th WOSFL Premier Division match of the season.

Troon come into this weekend’s game with optimism, hot on the heels of an impressive win over Pollok at Portland Park on Wednesday night.

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men may have been on a wretched run of results, but their form has still been giving cause for optimism before Saturday’s match. The Manager has been really strong in his message that only points are good enough in the upcoming matches though, so the travelling Seasiders will be hoping for a result which might give some daylight behind us.

Arthurlie have had a very respectable return to the top flight after their invincible season last term. Sitting 12th, after 5 wins in 11 games & despite being deducted 3 points for an admin error, they are looking in a good position to secure their Premier Division status. The loss of star man Aaron Healy to Queens Park has been a real blow at the sharp end of the pitch, and Arthurlie’s results since his departure have certainly been challenging.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Darrell has been a busy man in the treatment room of late, with plenty of knocks & niggles to treat after a run of tough matches, but we look to be getting back to what resembles a full squad again. Or, as close to it as we can get at this stage of the season.

Jack Sherrie returned from suspension in midweek & looked to have benefitted from the break, and that is a big boost to the Seasiders. Recent signing Michael Aitken also returns after injuring his shoulder.

Dale Moore has an ankle issue as has Raymond Montgomerie, who will be missing for a few weeks with damaged ankle ligaments. Ewan McLevy is a doubt with a knee knock suffered against Rob Roy, but Stephen Wilson is close to a shock return, after suffering what looked like a season ending injury against Ashfield.

Wednesday’s result was really good, but it was no more than we deserved. I felt we looked sharp & right on it right from arriving at the ground to be honest, there was a real hunger about the boys & the way they went about their business is exactly what we were looking for. We asked them for a reaction, and we certainly got it & I hope the fans enjoyed it.

It’s not exactly a case of more of the same on Saturday, it’s a different opposition & a very different game, but we know what we’re about & we know that if we turn up & go about our business the way we know we can & have now shown we can, we will get the rewards for that.

Always the dangerman when facing Troon, the Arthurlie talisman is regularly the source of the spectacular.

Formerly with Rutherglen, Dale is equally comfortable in midfield or up front & is a threat from anywhere.

⚽️️ GARY CARROLL βš½οΈ

The 32 year old has become the focal point for the β€˜Lie since he joined from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in 2020.

Settled back at Dunterlie after spells with Alloa, Bo’ness, Sauchie, Cumbernauld & Rob Roy, Gary leads by example from the front.

Arthurlie’s players made history last season, chalking up an β€œInvincible” campaign as they were the winners of Conference A with amazing 28 wins in 30 games, and 0 defeats.

Troon started poorly in 2021-22 against some strong teams, but a mid-season surge saw them sitting comfortably in the 8th & 9th for the vast majority of the season before securing their place in the Premier Division for the 2022-23 season.
