After last Saturday’s West of Scotland Cup frustration against Ashfield, all eyes refocus on the Premier Division league campaign & a trip to Holm Park and Gordon Moffat’s Bankies.

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have been on a disappointing run of form of late & they will be looking for their first competitive win in 5 matches after what was an excellent start to the season. Recent form against Clydebank hasn’t been too bad, but it will be a depleted squad that makes the trip.

Clydebank have been consistently inconsistent this season, with some unpredictable highs & lows. They have rediscovered some form of late however, with 4 wins in their last 5 games making this a tough challenge for us.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

It’s a case of the walking wounded this week at training, with a number of players picking up knocks in recent matches. Josh Black returned last week after missing 3 games with suspension & a knock, and that is a major boost with so many players a doubt.

Stephen Wilson is a definite absentee after suffering a suspected dislocated hip last week against Ashfield, and Mark Morrison is missing with a tight hamstring. Ben Black remains a doubt after being missing since the St Cuthbert Wanderers match in November following a nasty challenge which resulted in a red card for Alex Riddock, and Jack Sherrie is a doubt after illness. Raymond Montgomerie had to be substituted at half-time against Ashfield with an ankle injury & Jaime Gallagher was an enforced substitution after picking up a knock in training.

Logan Smith has had a setback with his hip complaint & is now set to be on the sidelines until into the New Year.

Last weekend was desperately disappointing for us, we had hoped for a Cup run this season & that was a very good opportunity to do just that. Ashfield were excellent from the very beginning, they were sharp & played some excellent football & so rightly deserve the plaudits. But our focus has to be on us, and as good as Ashfield were, we should not lose to a team two divisions below us when we are at home & that is where the disappointment lies.

Different task for us altogether this week, with Clydebank the favourites at home & with them being on form at the moment. We just need to pick ourselves up & perform on a ground where we have recorded a victory or two in recent times, so it certainly isn’t beyond us at all, even with reduced numbers. Although, we’re working hard this week to add some reinforcements to the squad & bolster our numbers a little. Win a couple of the games we have in hand on some teams above us & it’s an entirely different story for us.

Losing Stevie Wilson is a blow, he has really been coming onto a game in recent weeks & will certainly be a miss. Horrible looking injury, Stevie will bounce back from that I’m sure but he has our best wishes for now.

⚽️️ ADAM HODGE βš½οΈ

Signed from Hurlford last summer, Adam is in his second season with the Bankies & is fast becoming one of their standout players at right-back.

Began his career with Kilmarnock & then Ayr United before five seasons at Blair Park, Hodgey was also capped by Scottish Schoolboys at U15 and U16 level.

⚽️️ LEE GALLACHER βš½οΈ

The 27 year old winger seems to have finally found a home after a difficult few seasons, but he is more & more often the man who makes the difference for the Bankies.

Began his career at Partick Thistle before spells at Stenhousemuir, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy & Glenafton Athletic, Gallacher is a threat from either flank & has a keen eye for goal.

Clydebank were 1-0 winners in a tight first encounter of last season at Portland Park, a first half strike from Joe Slattery was enough to separate the teams in late July.

The return match in December saw a COVID hit Troon down to the bare bones, and Clydebank took advantage to chalk up a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Jamie Darroch, Nicky Little & an OG after Raymond Montgomerie had given us an early lead.
