Football’s back! For this weekend’s curtain raiser, we welcome Scottish Junior Cup & South Challenge Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot to Portland Park.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Auchinleck Talbot ⚽️
Saturday 30th July 2022
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 2pm
Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have had a promising pre-season, and will be looking to make that transfer into league points when the Cup holders come to town on Saturday.
Auchinleck Talbot put the disappointment of missing out on the league to Darvel last season behind them quickly, clinching a historic Cup double with the last two games of the season.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Ewan McLevy & Tommy Maitland both complete suspensions carried over from last season and will miss out on Saturday, but other than that we have a squad in rude health & keen to get going.
Summer signings Dale Burgess, Logan Smith & Kyle Gilroy will be looking forward to making their competitive debuts for the club after fantastic pre-seasons.
We no longer have a “long-term absentees” list as Todd Henderson is back in full training at Portland Park, which is great to see after his knee issues. He can look forward to an involvement with the Development Team to get his sharpness back up before he features for the first team again in the coming weeks.

Extended warm welcome to all Troon fans in attendance for todays game. The first in what promises to be a very exciting campaign for us all both on and off the park.
Jimmy, Marty & myself have worked tirelessly over the summer to improve the squad for the season ahead, and are really pleased with where the squad is at.
Pre-season went as well as we could have wished for, but it’s all about today; welcoming Ayrshire giants Auchinleck to Portland Park.
We are ready physically & mentally for the season ahead, and hope to show the Troon fans an exciting brand of football with plenty of goalmouth action. Hopefully plenty of points on the board too.
Thanks again for the continued support.
C’mon Troon!
Dean Keenan (Assistant Manager)

⚽️️ NEILL McPHERSON ⚽️
26 year old Neill joined Talbot from the then-ADL side Darvel as a promising defender & he has matured into arguably the standout defender in the West.
A three time Scottish Junior Cup winner, & double league winner, Neill is strong in the air & reads the game superbly.

⚽️️ KEIR SAMSON ⚽️
The 25 year old forward has made himself a vital member of the Talbot machine with some eye-catching displays last season, most notably from out wide in the South Challenge Cup Final victory over Bonnyrigg Rose.
Began his career in the Kilmarnock Youth Academy before moving to Stranraer, Keir moved to Beechwood Park from their near rivals Cumnock in 2018.

Troon travelled to Beechwood last July for our first encounter of 2021-22, with Talbot leaving it late to narrowly overcome a spirited Troon side 2-1 with goals from Bryan Boylan & Keir Samson cancelling out Sam Jamieson’s opener.
The return match in February was another close affair, an 86th minute Dwayne Hislop goal & an injury time Keir Samson strike the difference again.
