Troon are delighted to announce the signing of defender Gareth Armstrong from WOSFL Premier Division side Hurlford United.
The 32-year-old began his career with Ayr United, before he was one of Jimmy Kirkwood’s first signings as a young 16 year old when he moved to Portland Park in 2011 and he quickly became a staple in the Seasiders XI at full-back. He was crowned Player’s Player of the Year as the side won promotion from the ADL in 2012-13, and he was a regular as Jimmy’s side romped to the Super First title and the Ayrshire Cup the following season before establishing ourselves in the Premier Division.
Gareth moved on to join Auchinleck Talbot in the summer of 2017 and he enjoyed a prolonged period of success in the middle of the park at Beechwood, becoming a three-time winner of the Scottish Junior Cup amidst a plethora of medals & memorable matches.
After 7 years and 240 appearances, Gareth departed Auchinleck and headed for Hurlford in August 2024. Following the expiry of his contract at Blair Park, he has signed on again at Troon – almost 15 years to the day from his first signing.
An athlete with a great reading of the game, Gaz has proved himself at the very highest level of the non-league game in Scotland. His experience and versatility will make him a key part of this season’s squad as we embark on a season at tier 5 in the Scottish football pyramid.
Welcome back to Portland Park, Gareth!
