Troon are in good form coming into the conclusion of a busy week, after confident wins over Hurlford on Saturday and Cumnock on Wednesday night.

It’s a huge match for both sides but with the opportunity to open up a gap between them & the teams below them, it will be a hotly contested three points.

Troon and Irvine Meadow currently sit level in 8th place on 20 points, although Medda still have games in hand.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Raymond Montgomerie is suspended for the game, after being shown two yellow cards in Wednesday’s win over Cumnock. The only other doubt is Sam McCloskey, but he is expected to be fine for the match.

Of our long-term absentees, Mark Morrison (knee) remains out. Ross McCrea is working on his rehabilitation after a setback following surgery on his cruciate knee injury, all things going well we hope to welcome him back into the side at the turn of the year. Todd Henderson is is grafting very hard indeed as he recovers from surgery on his knee injury & he is targeting a return to training very soon.

We are coming into Saturday’s game full of confidence off the back of two great performances and results.

Spenny has changed the Medda style since taking the job and is reaping the rewards with them performing really well in the league.

It’s a game both sides will be desperate to win. They have billed it as a derby game, we are happy with that and hope to take the three points back to Portland Park with us. Something which we haven’t been able to do against Medda for a while.

Dean Keenan (Assistant Manager)

⚽️️ MARK McLENNAN ⚽️

30 year old Mark is the Captain and heartbeat of this Medda side, and adds a touch of class to the team.

Formerly a full-back, but now a fixture in the midfield, the former Pollok & St. Mirren man is also a goal threat to be wary of.

⚽️️ CONNOR BOYD ⚽️

24 year old Connor has been a revelation since signing up at Meadow Park last summer from the amateur ranks.

Connor spent his formative years in the Kilmarnock Pro-Youth set-up, before spending time at Drongan United and more recently Hurlford Thistle.

Troon and Irvine Meadow didn’t face each other during the 2020-21 season, which was eventually declared null & void due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

In our first encounter of 2019-20, Medda ran out 3-1 winners in December 2019 at Meadow Park thanks to goals from Mark McLennan & a double from Eddie McTernan. The return match in April was postponed & eventually cancelled after the first national Covid lockdown was announced.
