Troon bade a fond farewell to what must ultimately be considered a successful first half of the season in 2021.

A 5-3 victory over Bonnyton Thistle was the perfect start to 2022 for the Seasiders, but a challenging run on the road of Rob Roy, Blantyre & then Sauchie in the South Challenge Cup will test Jimmy Kirkwood’s men to the full.

Rob Roy have had a strong first half of the season, with some impressive victories in a season where many tipped them to flirt with relegation. Manager Stewart Maxwell continues to derive great satisfaction at defying the critics, once again guiding his side to mid-table safety as the row about their long-awaited new stadium rumbles on unconcluded.

Rob Roy currently sit in 14th place in the Premier Division table, 5 points behind us sitting in 10th.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

The festive break came at a good time for our squad of players, a number of whom have been carrying knocks & niggles after a long period with a run of games.

Josh Black & Jack Sherrie have sat out the last couple of games with knocks, but they are looking fit to return to action in the next week or two while Chris Murchie returned against Saltcoats after surgery in November to compete with Marc Fisher for the goalkeepers jersey.

We are missing a couple of first-team players who are isolating, and we wish them a swift recovery.

Of our long-term absentees, Todd Henderson & Mark Morrison have returned to training after injury & hopefully we will see them back in Troon jerseys very soon. Ross McCrea (knee) remains out.

Good win for us Saturday, in our first competitive game in a month. The game was very much needed for us.

Training has been excellent throughout the break, it’s a credit to the players for that. The squad is taking bit more shape, we welcomed Mark Morrison back into the fold this week also which further strengthens us.

Not surprised to see Rob Roy performing well, and no more so than last week against Clydebank. A terrific win with just 10 men coming from behind to win.

Saturday will be a tough test, we will have to be at our very best to bring any points back to Troon.

⚽️ CRAIG TRUESDALE ⚽️

Craig is the midfield heartbeat of this Rabs side.

Began his career at Airdrieonians, before a short spell with Stirling Albion, the 21 year old is in his second season with the Rabs and has made quite an impression so far.

⚽️ ARRAN ROSS ⚽️

21 year old defender Arran is another product of the Airdrieonians youth system, where he spent all his formative years from Under 16s until the Reserve squad, before he spent time on loan at Linlithgow Rose & BSC Glasgow (now Broomhill).

Strong & quick, he’s starting to put his pedigree to good use at Guy’s Meadow where he has produced some eye-catching displays.
