Troon Football Club

MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

Following a narrow 2-1 defeat the previous Saturday at Hurlford United, Troon hoped to get our first league points on the board when we welcomed Cumnock to Portland Park in the second West Premiership game of the season.

Despite the recent heavy rainfall, the Portland Park pitch was in great condition and the first half action was pretty even between the sides. The ever reliable ScoJo produced a fine save in the 18th minute from the exciting Chris Campbell, who was  excellent in the opening stages, and the on-loan Partick Thistle frontman Jordan Kemoe was shown a yellow card early on for simulation when he went down easily after      running in the box alongside Dean Keenan. Alan Murdoch was keeping Troon at bay with a strong performance at the back and the half ran out ultimately goalless.

HALF-TIME: TROON F.C. 0-0 CUMNOCK

We began the second half brightly, with Evan Maley producing a good strike that came back off the post. Captain Scott Chatham was replaced by Steven McCreadie, but it was Cumnock who had the better of the closing stages and their subs Hunter and Jordan Banks were causing havoc and it was no surprise when they eventually took the lead in the 89th minute after Banks strode clear & slipped the ball past the despairing ScoJo. It was looking like a second defeat in a row until a dramatic equaliser in the 90th minute. With Cumnock supporters still celebrating their goal, Montgomerie played in Stevenson who was crowded out and the ball fell to Evan Maley at the edge of the box. His first-time shot took a deflection past ex-Troon keeper Ally Semple to spark wild celebrations from the home support & players.

It was a hard fought contest, but a draw was probably a fair result over the piece.
