MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

Wednesday 21st August saw us travel to Auchinleck to face current League & Scottish Cup Champions Talbot. The pitch was heavy with persistent heavy rain before and during the game. A gusty wind also made the playing conditions difficult.

The home team had the better of the early stages, yet somehow we took the lead in the 23rd minute. A tremendous strike by Dean Fulton from the edge of the box put us ahead. Not for long as Talbot hit the net in the 29th and 32nd minute. We were on the back foot and another double just before half-time confirmed Talbot’s dominance.

HALF-TIME: AUCHINLECK TALBOT 4-1 TROON F.C.

Dean Keenan had to be substituted with an injury at the interval, being replaced by Steven McCreadie.

Talbot were ruthless in the 2nd half. We had no response to their speed, fitness and desire. Another quick double followed in the 61st and 63rd minute. Ryan Stevenson was replaced by young Sam McCloy, who worked hard and did make a positive impact. ScoJo made a couple of fine saves and the woodwork saved us on a few occasions. Two late goals completed the rout.
