After a weekend away from competitive action, it’s back to League business as we make the trip to the Glasgow Club Donald Dewar to take on Drumchapel United in our 7th WOSFL Premier Division match of the season already.

⚽️ Drumchapel United versus Troon F.C. ⚽️
Saturday 6th September 2025
WOSFL Premier Division
The Donald Dewar Centre, Drumchapel
Kick-off 2pm
Five wins out of six is certainly an encouraging start, but the defeat to Talbot last time out certainly focusses the mind and helps guard against complacency ahead of a busy September.
Last season was a fantastic season for the club, even if there was perhaps a little disappointment it didn’t end up in silverware of any kind. But there is certainly a steely determination in the camp to improve on that this season. As a result, this close season has perhaps been more evolution than revolution as we look to tweak what was good last year to go one better.
Drumchapel United had an excellent first season in the Premier Division after being crowned the First Division Champions in 2023-24, and they finished 6th in one of the most competitive Premier Divisions for years. Not only that, they also narrowly lost out at the two-legged semi-final stage of the Scottish Junior Cup against Tranent as well as respectable runs in both the South Challenge Cup & West of Scotland Cup.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

The weekend of rest may have not been our preferred option, but it was put to good use by our squad after a hectic opening couple of months.
Sam Jamieson has returned to full training & is available for selection this weekend following his injury against Renfrew on the opening day. Calum Gow misses out this weekend following his sending off against Auchinleck Talbot.
Captain Mark Morrison is back to light training while he is awaiting a consultant appointment and hopefully we’ll see him back on the park soon, while Scott McLean is continuing his rehab from his knee reconstruction surgery. He is back to gentle running now & is eyeing a comeback around Hallowe’en.

Back to league action after a blank weekend (nonsense that we have blank weekends at this level of football at this stage of the season, but never mind) and we head to a ground where we feel we have something to prove after last season. Drumchapel were very impressive when we played them, but if we want to progress we have to pick up points where we didn’t last season – Drumchapel took 6 points out of 6 last season, we have to right that.
It was a weekend of mixed emotions against Auchinleck Talbot last time out; I was delighted and proud to be leading our team out as table toppers in such a big occasion, but it was a match we should have done better in & we have to learn from that.
For the first 40 minutes we were the better team. Then we go through with a chance to go 2-0 up, don’t take it & they go up the park & score. For me, that was the difference between the two sides because they’ve had six clear-cut chances and they’ve taken five, they were absolutely ruthless. Instead of putting the ball in the back of the net for the equaliser they should have been taking centre at two down; there is no doubt the Talbot players got a massive lift out of that. They saw the weakness, they went for it, and they capitalised on it.
Important September coming up, more crowds like we enjoyed in the Talbot match would be a real boost to the players as we look to cement ourselves in this title race and the further stages of the Cups.

⚽️️ DAVID HOPKIRK ⚽️

The 32 year old was arguably the standout midfielder in the Premier Division last season, and more of the same is anticipated this term.
He was hot property as a youngster, coming through the famed Hamilton Academical youth policy and made his debut in the SPFL in 2010 as a 17 year old before trials with West Brom, Ipswich and Cardiff.
Hopkirk joined Drumchapel in 2023 after a stellar career including spells at Hearts, Queen of the South, Dunfermline, Derry City, Clyde, Dumbarton & Stenhousemuir.
⚽️️ BOTTI BIABI ⚽️

The 29 year old was arguably the headline signing for Drumchapel when he joined from Kelty Hearts last summer. A forward of real substance & a pedigree in the higher leagues, and with him returning to the club a couple of weeks ago much of the weight of goalscoring will fall on him again this season.
Began his career with Falkirk before a big money move to then-Premier League side Swansea City for a four year spell. He eventually returned to Scotland with Hamilton and Stenhousemuir before joining Kelty.

| DRUMCHAPEL UNITED | LOST | Donald Dewar Centre |
| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | 2-0 | WOSFL Premier |
The first encounter of 2024-25 was an entertaining match in Troon’s first ever visit to the Glasgow Club Donald Dewar.
Troon had a strong start to the match and should have been ahead at half-time, misses that they came to rue as David Hopkirk gave their hosts the lead on the 58th minute with a trademark superb goal. As Troon pressed and threw the kitchen sink at the Drum, defender Ruaridh McIntyre sealed the 3 points for the First Division Champions late on.

| TROON FOOTBALL CLUB | LOST | Portland Park |
| DRUMCHAPEL UNITED | 0-3 | WOSFL Premier |
The return match in March was to be an even better performance from the Drum, as they blew their hosts away with a goalscoring spree.
That man David Hopkirk gave the visitors an early lead with a smart finish, before a battle ground out and the first half was seen out. The Drum came out determined after the interval though, and a quickfire double from Kevin Nicoll & Munir Idris secured the 3 points thanks to two assists from Argyll McCoist in front of his famous father.
