Kick-off 2pm

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have made a quietly confident start to the season, although recent defeats against Hurlford & Darvel are the only blots on an otherwise perfect copybook.

Cambuslang came into the season full of optimism, but a difficult run of opening fixtures have garnered just one league win in six matches so far, an impressive 3-0 reverse at fellow promoted side Arthurlie. Their 4-0 romp over Lowland League Gretna in the South Challenge Cup tells us exactly what we have to beware of though.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Dale Moore misses out, as he serves a one-match ban after being sent-off last Saturday at Darvel.

We have no new injury concerns this week, other than the usual knocks & niggles, after Logan Smith & Tommy Maitland both returned to the starting line-up in recent weeks and suffered no ill-effects.

That was a frustrating Saturday we had up at Darvel last week, but for a few decisions I felt we could have seen a better outcome. Even Mick Kennedy said it wasn’t a 5-0 game, but that was the risk that we took in our approach to the game. The decision to award the offside when it came from a goal kick is incredible to me, and that free-kick leads directly to their opening goal. It’s fine margins like that, and that’s where you need the rub of the green.

This week will be very hard, I’ve faced Paul’s teams a number of times over the years and it’s always incredibly tough, he always has them well drilled & fired up. We can get the three points, but we’ll have to earn them, that’s for sure.

Jimmy Kirkwood (Manager)

⚽️️ DAVID COX ⚽️

The 33 year old joined up at Somervell Park in the summer, after finishing last season as Brechin City’s top scorer with 18 goals in 32 games.

Equally comfortable through the middle or coming from the flanks, “Coxy” has a great pedigree in Scottish football after spells with Albion Rovers, Airdrieonians and Cowdenbeath, amongst others.

⚽️️ SCOTT FAULDS ⚽️

The 34 year old former Shotts Bon Accord centre-back is a popular figure at Somervell Park, and is a colossus in defence for the Camby.

Strong in the tackle & dominant in the air, Scott is a threat in both boxes for Billy Campbell & Paul McColl’s side.

Cambuslang Rangers were the winners of Conference B last season, comfortably finishing top of the 15 team conference ahead of St Cadoc’s, Gartcairn & Renfrew in what was arguably the toughest group of last season’s sections.

Troon started poorly in 2021-22 against some strong teams, but a mid-season surge saw them sitting comfortably in the 8th & 9th for the vast majority of the season before securing their place in the Premier Division for the 2022-23 season.
