MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

Saturday 2nd November saw Troon face Bishopbriggs based Rossvale in a crucial league match. With a mere 7 points from our 12 league games – and sitting in a 3rd bottom relegation place, a victory was badly needed. The venue was the artificial pitch at New Tinto Park – the home of Govan-based Benburb FC. The hosts are currently ground-sharing at the ‘Bens. A pleasant, sunny afternoon greeted the teams.

The first half was fairly even although we created more chances. The ref made some inconsistent decisions which led to Manager Jonny Baillie’s frustration and a yellow card on the half hour mark – and Rossvale’s number 6 received the same fate for a bad tackle which probably merited a sending-off minutes later.

HALF-TIME: ROSSVALE 0-0 TROON F.C.

Striker John Gemmell came out for the second period – after recovering from an ankle knock in a collision with the ‘Vale keeper just before the interval. Midfielder Ross Barbour was booked for what many saw as a fair challenge in the 50th minute. We found the net some 10 minutes later – only for the linesman to flag for offside. Dean Keenan then found himself yellow carded minutes later. The game took a turning point in the 65th minute – with Ross Barbour picking up a second yellow and accordingly sent-off. A double substitution took place minutes later when Ryan Stevenson and Dean Fulton were replaced by Steven McCreadie and Raymond Montgomerie.

The home side, heartened by our sending off, scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute – a defensive slip affording them the opportunity. We pushed hard, but the ‘Vale defence held out. Big John Gemmell – who worked hard throughout, let his frustration get the better of him. A comment to the referee saw him also yellow-carded some 10 minutes from time.

A disappointing outcome as we were the better team – but didn’t take our chances. Joint top scorer Dylan Pooler was not available – due to he and his partner having a baby days before the game. Congratulations! A very poor referee display, and an ill-deserved sending off didn’t help our cause.

MAN OF THE MATCH: John Gemmell

REFEREE: Tony Fullerton
ASSISTANT REFEREE: Steven Spence
ASSISTANT REFEREE: Adam Duthie
