We received confirmation on Friday 1st May that the new West of Scotland Football League (WOSFL) board have agreed a structure with the Scottish Football Association (SFA) for the upcoming season’s WOSFL.

Following on from the news last week that the previously-expected conference structure had been rejected by the SFA, there had been plenty of speculation.

The email, received from WOSFL Chairman David McKenna, stated: “Following a video conference this afternoon with the Scottish Football Association, the long running discussions on the setting up of the West of Scotland Football League within the Pyramid have finally been concluded.”

“After constructive discussions it was agreed that there will be a top division of 20 teams. This will be made up of the 16 teams from the West Region Premiership plus Darvel, Cumbernauld United and Blantyre Victoria from West Region Championship and Bonnyton Thistle. The remaining teams will be allocated to balanced conferences.

There will be promotion and relegation across the league at the end of season 1. The details of that will be agreed when we have a clearer picture of what the playing season looks like, given all the current uncertainties. 
This new structure will be subject to  formal ratification, required by the Scottish Football Association process, and we can now proceed to move forward to make a success of our new league.”

The WOSFL Conferences, to sit below the Premier League, have been announced tonight & are as attached.

Promotion & relegation places are yet to be announced, but are expected to include 1 up from each Conference.

At the end of the forthcoming season, it is anticipated that 4 leagues will be formed in a linear pattern, similar to that of the now replaced SJFA West Region.

Football won’t be returning any time soon, but at least we know exactly what we can plan ahead for!
