It’s an away day we haven’t enjoyed for over a decade, as we head to Hannah Park in Shotts for our 25th GreenVersity WOSFL Premier Division match of the season.

Saturday 19th April 2025
GreenVersity WOSFL Premier Division
Hannah Park, Shotts
Kick-off 2pm
It’s the final straight of another exciting season, with 7 matches in 4 weeks to draw the season to a close in typical manic fashion. Clydebank may have been crowned Champions already, but attention has well and truly shifted to the battle for second place between ourselves, Johnstone Burgh & Auchinleck Talbot. And Iβm sure even Drumchapel & St. Cadocβs havenβt written off their inclusion in that battle as well, even if they may look outsiders at the moment. Although, Saturday showed there are plenty of ups and downs still to come in this campaign yet!
Shotts had an excellent campaign last season where they upset the odds to finish runners-up to Champions Drumchapel, and John McKeown’s men are enjoying their return to the top flight as they look to upset the odds yet again. A difficult start, with some notable injuries, is now behind them and they have been chalking up some impressive performances. They may be in the middle of a 4-way battle to avoid the bottom three, but wins against Beith, Benburb & Glenafton this season have given them real cause for optimism.
Hereβs everything you need to know ahead of Saturdayβs matchβ¦

We are unfortunately looking at a few players having kicked their last ball for this season now.
Nathan Baird had to be helped from the pitch at Clydebank with a badly torn calf, while Jack Sherrie is also awaiting news on surgery for a hernia. Scott McLean is working through the lengthy rehabilitation following successful knee reconstruction surgery in early March, whilst Ewan McLevy is also working on his fitness after a knee injury sustained against St. Rochβs in October with a view to next season.

Glad to be back focussing on football after so much talk about league reconstruction the last wee while, delighted to hear that isn’t happening this summer. For that to even be put on the table at this late stage of the campaign is just ridiculous for me, you absolutely cannot shift the goalposts at this late stage when teams have been fighting & giving their everything all season. You need to know what you’re playing for when the season begins, otherwise it just becomes a bit of a farce. Love or hate the reconstruction proposal, you can accept it if you know it in advance & can plan accordingly, but that should be the minimum criteria for something like this. There’s too much at stake for everyone to accept anything less.
I’m looking forward to a trip to Shotts again, I think the last time we were there was the 2013-14 Super First season (from memory) so been a while. A massive park that hopefully our lads can go and express themselves on, but Shotts will be fighting for their lives and will be right up for the fight, that’s for sure. We saw plenty of their qualities down at Portland in March, they were possibly unlucky to leave with just a point in all honesty but we have to look to play the way we can in the game & get back to winning ways.
Saturday was a frustrating one. We were excellent for the first 25 minutes, there was absolutely only one team in it then but again we just don’t put a team to the sword when we have that pressure. First time they came up the park we find ourselves 1-0 down, and that just can’t be acceptable to any of the boys. We need to make other teams work harder for their goals, it’s as simple as that. That’s the challenge.

β½οΈοΈ SANDY THOMSON β½οΈ

Every team needs a reliable last-line of defence, and Sandy is certainly that for the Bonny.
Signed by John McKeown in 2023, the 31 year old has been a busier man this season than last. Previously with Wishaw, Lesmahagow & Cambuslang Rangers.
β½οΈοΈ TAYLOR EVANS β½οΈ

A long-serving member of the Shotts squad, despite being only 25, Taylor joined up at Hannah Park from Stirling Albion in March 2018 and has been a favourite ever since.
Top scorer in the side this campaign with 11 goals, his all-action style makes him a stand-out as he leads the line with intensity.

Shotts Bon Accord finished runners-up in the WOSFL First Division 2023-24, after a season long tussle with eventual Champions Drumchapel United for the title, from a very competitive league including Rutherglen, Ashfield, Petershill, Kilwinning and many more strong sides.
Troon finished 12th in the 16 team WOSFL Premier Division 2023-24 last season; a promising start quickly hit the buffers, before a strong finish secured safety & actually ended up in a little disappointment that we didnβt finish higher. One of the most frustrating parts of last season was a November defeat away to Rutherglen Glencairn in the Scottish Junior Cup, a frustrating match where we never really got going.
