MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

Three days after the 8-1 defeat at the hands of Auchinleck Talbot we faced Kilbirnie Ladeside at their Valefield Park home.

With only 4 points from the previous 5 league games, we were desperate to improve. A warm, sunny afternoon and excellent looking pitch were made for good football and it turned out to be a close, entertaining encounter. Both sides worked hard to gain the advantage, and a slack penalty saw us go 1-0 down on the half hour mark. We deserved our equaliser in the 37th minute, a great run and finish from Dean Fulton saw us level the score. A quite remarkable defensive mix-up between ScoJo & John Gemmell gifted the hosts a second. We lost our concentration just before half-time and Ladeside grabbed a potentially fatal third.

The first half was more even than the score reflected, with Steven McCreadie particularly impressive in midfield.

HALF-TIME: KILBIRNIE LADESIDE 3-1 TROON F.C.

Jack Paterson ,made an appearance on the hour, replacing Evan Maley. Injury forced his withdrawal later in the game. We worked hard in the second half, Scott Chatham hit the crossbar in the 64th minute. We pulled a goal back in the 75th minute – Ryan Stevenson netting from the penalty spot. Against the run of play, and failure on our part to challenge, Kilbirnie grabbed a 4th goal a few minutes later. We continued to work hard and big John Gemmell scored our third goal in the closing minutes.

An improved performance in a game where we deserved at least a point.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Steven McCreadie
