After a weekend off competitive action, it’s back to League business as we make our first ever visit to the Donald Dewar Centre to take on WOSFL First Division Champions Drumchapel United in our 7th GreenVersity WOSFL Premier Division match of the season.

⚽️ Drumchapel United versus Troon F.C. ⚽️
Saturday 7th September 2024
Greenversity WOSFL Premier Division
Donald Dewar Centre, Drumchapel
Kick-off 2pm
It’s the sixth league match of the new season already, and it’s a strong start with four excellent wins & two frustrating defeats so far. But when you add our South Challenge Cup progression into the mix, there has certainly been plenty of positives to keep confidence up & optimism high amongst our supporters!
Last weekend’s win at Hurlford United is the first victory at Blair Park in recent memory. An excellent performance from the team, three goals & a clean sheet in front of a delighted travelling support represents real progress. Add that to the wins against Cumnock, Darvel & St. Cadoc’s, and 12 points from the opening six matches represents a promising start to the campaign.
That’s nothing to the start First Division Champions Drumchapel have made though, if it wasn’t for the phenomenal start Clydebank have made to the campaign then the Drum would have been leading the way at points in August. They have an extremely strong squad, and they have momentum behind them with three excellent campaigns so they will be considered hot favourites again this weekend.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

The only new injury concern is Jack Sherrie, who came off inured after 2 minutes in Saturday’s friendly with a painful looking ankle injury. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to be a repeat of the issue which kept him out of action last season, but it is still anticipated he will be missing for a few weeks at least.
Ben Black returned to the pitch as a substitute in each of our last 3 matches and is back in contention for a start, while Scott McLean has now featured in two friendlies for us in the comeback from his knee injury (scoring a wonderful free-kick into the bargain) so he is edging closer to returning to the matchday squad as well.

New ground for us this weekend & a new opposition, our first ever match against Drumchapel is a new experience for us all so that’s a challenge in itself to adapt to new surroundings. Something for us to embrace and meet head on.
I said last time out that we love a trip to Hurlford, but that’s the first victory we’ve had there in some number of years. A strong performance, and a result that rounds up a really pleasing August for us all. We’ve had a good start to the season, and we are delighted with some of the performances, but it’s a new month & that needs to start again this month. You’re only as good as your last game, so we need to make sure we look for that consistency in our performances & our results. For us to reach our targets this season, that’s exactly what we need to do across the campaign and that’s the challenge that’s been laid down to the squad and us as coaches.
Huge match for the club next weekend, a big Cup match at home to Dunbar United; another big club from the East of Scotland. We have faced Penicuik Athletic & Dundonald Bluebell already this season, but Dunbar finished above both of them in the table last season so this is the toughest we’ve faced this season so far. Let’s get a huge crowd in to cheer on the lads!

⚽️️ GREGG WYLDE ⚽️

He may be 33 now, but the former Rangers winger still adds a touch of class to the left hand side of any team, and since joining the Drum in July that’s exactly what he’s done.
Famously departed Ibrox in 2012, the Scotland Under 21 internationalist has enjoyed spells with Bolton, Aberdeen, St. Mirren, Plymouth, Millwall, Livingston, Clyde, East Kilbride & Dumbarton.
⚽️️ BOTTI BIABI ⚽️

The 28 year old was arguably the headline signing for the Drum from Kelty Hearts in the summer, a forward of real substance & a pedigree in the higher leagues, and much is expected of him this season.
Began his career with Falkirk before a big money move to then-Premier League side Swansea City for a four year spell. He eventually returned to Scotland with Stenhousemuir before joining Kelty.
