Davie McIlroy

Everyone at the club were saddened to hear of the passing of former Troon F.C. Manager Davie McIlroy, who passed away today.

Probably best remembered as a Scottish Cup winner with Kilbirnie Ladeside in 1977, Davie was Troon Manager in the 1980s, and oversaw our promotion from the Ayrshire Second Division into the top flight of Junior football.

Kilbirnie Ladeside Secretary Gordon Ronney paid tribute. “I was fortunate to have had Davie as my PE teacher and one of my Kilbirnie Ladeside heroes.

Davie always had a smile on his face whenever you met him. He was a tremendous player, tricky and brave, his goal scoring exploits for our club was one of the reasons we were so successful in season 1976-77, scoring eight in our Scottish Cup run.”

There will be a minute’s silence before our game against Darvel on Sunday as we pay our respects.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time.
