Cambuslang Rangers Match Preview – Troon Football Club

There’s another important three points up for grabs this Saturday as we head up the M77 for our 26th WOSFL Premier Division match of the season.

Saturday 29th April 2023
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
Somervell Park, Cambuslang
Kick-off 2pm

Troon come into this weekend’s game in a very strong 8th position in the league, following on from a scintillating 4-0 away drubbing of the Champions-elect Beith last Saturday & a creditable draw away to Auchinleck Talbot in our last two league matches.

Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have had an excellent season over the piece, despite some up & down moments in the middle, and they are looking to secure a strong finish with the Manager targetting 2 wins out of our last 4 matches.

Cambuslang Rangers have not enjoyed their return to the top flight thus far, with them looking up at the Premier Division from the wrong end. It was a tight encounter at Portland Park back in October, and the Lang will be looking for revenge this time out.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Darrell has been a busy man in the treatment room of late, with plenty of knocks & niggles to treat after a run of tough matches, but we look to be getting back to what resembles a full squad again. Or, as close to it as we can get at this stage of the season.

Ben Black is an absentee after being stretchered off against Auchinleck Talbot. He has had the stitches in his knee wound removed, but he will likely be missing for a couple of weeks still.

Raymond Montgomerie’s ankle injury appears to be worse than first suspected & he needs minor surgery which would likely end his season.

Where do I start about last Saturday! I thought all the boys were magnificent from turning up at the ground right through to leaving. Right from the warm-up I could see the boys were right at it, and quite frankly they blew the team that I expect to be the Champions this season away for 90 minutes. I’m not going to single anyone out either, it was an amazing team performance & typifies how we’ve been playing last couple of months, but great to see some of the individuals getting some media coverage this week. Very well deserved.

This week will be very hard, I’ve faced Paul’s teams a number of times over the years and it’s always incredibly tough, he always has them well drilled & fired up. We can get the three points, but we’ll have to earn them, that’s for sure.

Cambuslang Rangers were the winners of Conference B last season, comfortably finishing top of the 15 team conference ahead of St Cadoc’s, Gartcairn & Renfrew in what was arguably the toughest group of last season’s sections.

Troon started poorly in 2021-22 against some strong teams, but a mid-season surge saw them sitting comfortably in the 8th & 9th for the vast majority of the season before securing their place in the Premier Division for the 2022-23 season.
