BIOGRAPHY
Stuart began his career in the Ayr United youth system, signing an ‘S Form’ as a talented 14 year old, before eventually progressing to signing a full-time professional contract at the age of 18 in 2003.
He drew some early attention as an exciting young winger in Campbell Money’s side, and even went on trial with Premier League side Charlton Athletic. After two seasons with The Honest Men, he moved to Queen of the South in the summer of 2005 before re-joining his former Ayr United Manager Campbell Money & team-mate Darren Henderson at Junior side Cumnock in 2006.
Stuart, nicknamed “Chips” by his friends, moved back into senior football when Billy Stark signed him for Queens Park & he made a lasting impact on another club when he spent a successful two seasons at Hampden before Gardner Spiers overhauled the Spider’s squad in the summer of 2009.
Stuart joined Maybole in August 2009, a fantastic club where he was to spend six seasons and enjoy many highs, making a number of friends along the way & being named as Club Captain.
Stuart very sadly died in his sleep on 1st March 2015 at the age of 29, just a month before his 30th birthday.
To remember Stuart, Troon and Maybole have played for “The Stuart McGrady Memorial Trophy” every year since his passing, with the trophy being presented to the winning team by a member of Stuart’s family. He may be gone, but he is never forgotten.
