WOSFL Premier Division 2021-22

The format for this season’s PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division are starting to come out, which just gets us excited for the season to begin!

As was initially planned for last season, there will be a 20 team Premier Division in 2021-22. But to guard against any potential disruption across the season, the WOSFL Fixtures Secretary Kennie Young has created a format which should ensure the season comes to a conclusion, no matter the circumstances, in a bid to avoid the uncertainty seen in the past two seasons regarding null and void and points per game being awarded to create finishing positions.

The league (as well as each Conference Division below it) will be played in phases, as shown on Kennie’s diagram below (colour-coded teams are ground-sharing):

Kennie explained in an email to clubs exactly how his system is going to work:

After further discussions with the Management Committee, it is my intention to run with a 2 Phase System. Based on the premise that Covid may or may not have an effect on our fixtures.

PHASE 1

Each team will play every other team in their league either home or away. These fixtures will make up Phase 1 and, if completed, they will take us to 50% completion of the Divisions.

  • Premier Division = 19 Games
  • Conference A = 15 Games
  • Conference B = 14 Games
  • Conference C = 14 Games
  • Division 4 = 16 Games (Division 4 will play each other twice in Phase 1)

PHASE 2

Reversal of the Phase 1 Fixtures.

  • Premier Division = 19 Games
  • Conference A = 15 Games
  • Conference B = 14 Games
  • Conference C = 14 Games
  • Division 4 = Another round of Phase 1 fixtures

FORMAT

If Phase 1 is not completed then the season is declared Null & Void.

If Phase 1 is completed and it is clear that Phase 2 cannot be completed, the placings will be declared as they were at the end of Phase 1 Fixtures.

If Phase 2 is completed, placings for 2022-23 will be decided by final league placings.

In all cases, the full Phase MUST be completed, if not we refer back to the placings at the end of the last COMPLETED Phase. Results of games in an uncompleted phase will be declared null and void.

Please also note that due to postponements for Cup Ties or weather etc, it may be required to have teams play Phase 2 fixtures that have been brought forward into the Phase 1 period. These games will not count towards Phase 1 and will only count if Phase 2 is completed.

The above proposals will go in front of the West of Scotland Football League member clubs at their A.G.M. on Thursday (3rd June 2021) and the fixtures will be published shortly after if approved.

Football’s BACK!!
