Return to Football: SFA Update

Another brief meeting of the Scottish Football Association COVID-19 Joint Response Group took place today and the subject of the restart was discussed again.

David Hamilton, the Government’s advisor, has said that they are making quicker progress than anticipated with regards to moving through the phases. He has confirmed that there is no reason why we should not start to prepare for an October start, possibly slightly earlier if progress is maintained, with training commencing in August.

I must stress that this information is based solely on the state of play as of today, and is subject to change, which is dependent on the current progress being maintained.

This information applies to both the West of Scotland Football League and the Lowland Development League and, as part of the pyramid, this is the timetable we will be working to. This is not to be confused with the date of 13 July regarding Grassroots football; that date relates to children and young people’s informal activities connected to the return to school.

As things change, we will keep you updated – but, at last, we have a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!
