Troon are delighted to announce the return to Portland Park of midfielder Scott McLean after the expiry of his contract with Glenafton Athletic.
The 26 year old Ayr lad began his career in the SPL with Kilmarnock, making his professional debut in a 2-2 draw with Celtic in August 2015 at just 18 years old.
He enjoyed a successful spell in the number 10 position with the Seasiders in season 2017-18 in our promotion year back to the Premier Division, finishing as our top scorer with 14 goals from 18 matches before he departed for League One side Albion Rovers in March 2018.
A hugely successful season for Queens Park followed in 2018-19 where he was a standout performer at wing-back, before he won a move to Peter Murphy’s Annan Athletic for 2019-20. He agreed to join Darvel in 2020 before Covid scuppered everyone’s plans, but he took a brave move to join the ambitious National League (North) side Spennymoor Town in September 2020, where he would go on to spend two season in England.
McLean returned to Scotland in July 2022 to sign with Scottish League Two side Stranraer, who were managed by his former Kilmarnock team-mate Jamie Hamill. McLean would mark his debut for Stranraer with a goal in a 5-2 loss to former club Queen’s Park in the group stage of the Scottish League Cup.
In January 2023, Scott joined WOSFL Premier Division club Glenafton Athletic, where he spent most of his 18 month spell playing at full-back.
Welcome back to Portland Park, Scott!
