It’s a Cup weekend yet again, and this time we welcome our counterparts from Glasgow Perthshire to Portland Park for the first time in a number of years.

⚽️ Troon F.C. versus Glasgow Perthshire ⚽️
Saturday 12th November 2022
West of Scotland Football League Cup (Round 1)
Portland Park, Troon
Kick-off 1.30pm
After a number of Cup matches already this season, it’s time for the first round of the West of Scotland Cup this coming Saturday.
Jimmy Kirkwood’s men have made a quietly confident start to the season, garnering 4 wins from 8 matches in what was a tough looking start. A strong 7th position in the WOSFL Premier Division, with games in hand over some of those above, and into 4th round of the Scottish Junior Cup the 3rd round of the South Challenge Cup. Last weekend’s defeat at Largs Thistle was a real disappointment, and the Seasiders will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend.
Glasgow Perthshire are in the middle of a very challenging Second Division, but have managed to hold their own so far with impressive victories like last Saturday’s home win against table toppers Renfrew.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

Logan Smith’s hip complaint is improving & he is expected to come back into contention for this week’s match, although Mark Morrison looks to miss out this week along with Tommy Maitland, after he was made available for transfer.
Other than that, we have no new injury concerns to contend with, and the squad is looking hungry with competition for starting jerseys looking fierce.

Last weekend was a blow to us, and not just because of the result. Arnie has built another good Largs side & they were well worth the win, but I was disappointed with our performance. Across the board, I didn’t feel it was anywhere approaching good enough & the players were told that in no uncertain terms.
But we’ve been good this season, so we’re not going to let one game derail that. Training has been good this week & there is a real determination to get back on track this weekend.
Billy Adams has been in charge at Glasgow Perthshire for more than 20 years, which is an amazing achievement, and Perthshire can certainly cause us problems. We’ve had them watched & hopefully know what to expect, so we’ll see what kind of reaction we get from the players this Saturday.
Jimmy Kirkwood (Manager)

⚽️️ DAVID KIRKWOOD ⚽️
The long-serving Kirkwood is a regular in Billy Adams side as the focal point of their attack, where his no-nonsense style makes him a fan’s favourite at Keppoch Park.
Sometimes deployed to strengthen the back-line, Davie is a leader on the park.

⚽️️ CRAIG SMITH ⚽️
Typically the front runner for Billy Adams’ side, Craig is often the scorer of vital goals for Perthshire.
Another long-serving member of the squad, Craig’s pace & directness could cause problems for our defence.

Glasgow Perthshire finished 9th in an 15 team Conference C last season in a season that didn’t quite hit the heights they were hoping for, although that qualified them for the Second Division amongst some competitive teams.
Troon started poorly in 2021-22 against some strong teams, but a mid-season surge saw them sitting comfortably in the 8th & 9th for the vast majority of the season before securing their place in the Premier Division for the 2022-23 season.
