Troon Football Club

Recap

MATCH REPORT by Michael Connolly

This match was our second game of three in a hectic five day spell to conclude the group stages of the SJFA West Sectional League Cup. With a winning 1-4 victory away to Irvine Victoria on Saturday, everyone was keen to achieve another victory.

Despite the heavy recent rain, the Portland Park pitch was in very good condition. The first half was evenly contested, though both keepers were not seriously tested. Raymond Montgomerie and Dean Fulton received yellow cards in a tousy opening 45. Sadly, midfielder Ross McCrea was carried off just before the interval with a bad knee injury to be replaced by Evan Maley. The first half ended goalless.

HALF-TIME: TROON F.C. 0-0 IRVINE MEADOW XI

Troon certainly had the better of the second period. Ryan Stevenson produced a good save from the Medda keeper Newman in the 65th minute. Our discipline let us down again with both John Gemmell and Scott Chatham being booked. A draw was looking likely, but the home side showed the greater urgency in the closing stages. A good move provided the reward when Evan maley produced a good low shot in the 89th minute.

We deserved the victory. A winning desire, and some good football was well rewarded.
