Troon Football Club

Recap

MATCH REPORT by Michael Connelly

A wet evening at Ladywell Stadium saw the teams compete in this pre-season friendly. The teams competed for the “Stuart McGrady Trophy.” The ex-Ayr United and Maybole player sadly passed away in his sleep in 2015 at the all too young age of 29.

A solid, attacking performance in the first half saw the Seasiders take a two goal lead with good finishes from Dylan Pooler and Neil McGregor in the 10th & 15th minutes. Following an injury, the promising McGregor had to be replaced by Steven McCreadie.

A number of substitutions took place in the second half with Scott Dinwoodie and Ross McCrea getting some game time. Dylan Pooler grabbed his second goal with a well taken finish in the 70th minute. ScoJo was beaten by a good free-kick in the 78th minute. A soft decision from the referee saw the Maybole forward gifted a penalty. Justice was done when ScoJo made a magnificent double save. The game ended with a convincing 1-3 victory.

Former Troon manager Jimmy Kirkwood made a speech and led a minute’s applause in tribute to the late Stuart McGrady. ScoJo received our first silverware from Stuart’s brother & sister Martyn & Stacey.

It was a good workout for the squad. The result was well deserved. The positive, vocal encouragement from Manager Jonathan Baillie and Goalkeeping Coach Marty Fraser throughout saw a good response from our players.
