John Redmond is one of the most decorated & successful Managers of all time in his two spells at Troon Football Club.

“JR” was first appointed as Manager in 1993, with the club languishing in the doldrums of the Ayrshire Second Division. His knowledge of the Junior game, and his experience Managing in the amateur ranks with Minishant, saw our recruitment improve sharply and our fortunes on the park made a marked advance. His first piece of silverware at Troon came when they lifted the Kyle & Carrick Cup in 1994/95, before they were crowned Ayrshire Second Division Champions in 1996/97 under John, which was comfortably the club’s biggest achievement in their 50+ year history.

Under his leadership, Troon followed this up by lifting it’s successor, the South Ayrshire Cup, a miraculous six times in 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/00, 2000/01 before repeating his greatest achievement by lifting the Ayrshire Second Division Championship for the second time in 2001 before he moved on from Portland Park.

John answered an SOS to return to Portland Park in 2008 with the club struggling back in the bottom tier of the Juniors again, in the Ayrshire District League.
