Jim Dempsey signed for Motherwell in 1978 coming straight from Lanark United, he proved to be a reliable defender when called upon, he would go on to make 21 appearances for the club in two years before being given a free transfer in 1980. He would go onto serve Clyde and Falkirk with such distinction and also turned out for Partick Thistle, Dumbarton, Alloa Athletic and Stirling Albion before hanging up his boots.
He was part of Mark Shanks’ backroom staff at the all-conquering Kilwinning Rangers & followed him to Ayr United, before taking on his only Manager’s job to date at Portland Park in the summer of 2005 after our West of Scotland Cup win.
