Rossvale Match Preview

After a run of home games at Portland Park, we are back on the road with a proper away day as Troon travel to New Petershill Park for a fixture against Rossvale.

Saturday 4th September 2021
PDM Buildbase WOSFL Premier Division
New Petershill Park, Springburn
Kick-off 2pm

Troon have enjoyed a strong run of form & results in league action in the last few weeks, chalking up 3 wins, a draw & a defeat in their last 5 league outings.

Rossvale started the campaign poorly but since the appointment of new manager Iain Diack, form has improved & they have lifted 7 points out of 15 in their last 5 games with impressive wins over Benburb & Bonnyton.

Rossvale currently sit in 15th position in the table, 4 points below us having played a game more.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s match…

As with most teams after a hectic month, a combination of injuries & Covid are playing their part just now & we continue to miss some key players.

Returnee Ryan Stevenson comes straight back into the squad after re-signing from Albion Rovers. New signing Dominic Lavelle shone in midfield for the Development Team in midweek against Beith, but he is now isolating & missed last Saturday’s draw with Beith. Mark Morrison (knee), Raymond Montgomerie (hamstring) & Jaime Gallagher (shoulder) remain missing, but will hopefully return to action soon. Tyler Burns & Lewis McDowall both incurred ankle knocks last weekend & will be missing for a couple of weeks.

Of our long-term absentees, Ross McCrea is working on his rehabilitation after a setback following surgery on his cruciate knee injury, all things going well we hope to welcome him back into the side at the end of the year. Todd Henderson is off his crutches next week as he recovers from surgery on his knee injury & he is targeting a November return to action.

This is a big game for us, Iain is an old team mate of mine and will have them well organised and fit. They have turned Rossvale around in recent weeks and it will be a huge test.

Although we currently have the worst run of injuries I’ve ever seen at any level, it gives other players the opportunity to come in and stake their claim for a regular start. The Chairman has been great with us and hopefully can add a bit of quality to our squad in the coming days/weeks.

We have 8 cup finals now between Saturday and the midway point in the league, and we are determined to pick up more points that we feel our performances have merited.

Dean Keenan (Assistant Manager)

⚽️️ HUGH KERR ⚽️

“Shug” has been one of the leading marksmen in the Junior leagues for years & had a prolific partnership with Ian Watt at Lanark United, before making the step to join Rossvale in the summer.

Signed by his former Alloa teammate David Gormley before he departed for Broomhill, Kerr will be among the top scorers in the league this season for sure.

⚽️ JONATHAN HOGG ⚽️

A real prospect for the future, Jonny is on loan at Rossvale from Ayr United & has made an instant impression so far.

A right-back who has been capped by Scotland Schoolboys at several different levels, Ayr signed him from Cumbernauld Colts & regard him highly. A name to keep an eye on!

In our first encounter of 2020-21, Troon ran out 2-1 winners in November at Portland Park thanks to goals from Jordan Morton & Jaime Gallagher.

The return match in February was postponed, before the 2020-21 season was eventually declared null & void due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
